Berkeley Castle

Berkeley Castle is a fine example of Norman architecture being completed in 1153 by Maurice Berkeley. Located by the side of the Severn Estuary, this medieval fortress was completed under the command of Henry II and the cell where Edward II was murdered in 1327 is still in existence.

Berkeley Castle has been home to 24 generations of Berkeleys who have also given their name to Berkeley Square and Berkeley University California
