About the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions in England, with high, wooded hills and sweeping valleys dotted with charming, timeless villages of honey-coloured stone cottages.
Malmesbury
Malmesbury is situated to the south of Cirencester on the edge of the Cotswolds. The town is set on a hill with the River Avon running around it. Malmesbury Abbey is an impressive Norman Abbey that intrudes on the skyline.
The town has a very long history stretching back over a thousand years, but reached its peak during the 15th century as a weaving centre, renowned for producing lace and silk. Interesting features include a 15th century Market Cross and the Old Courtroom.
Attractions include: Malmesbury Abbey and Abbey House Garden. Further afield are the towns of Tetbury and Cirencester, Bath, Westonbirt Arboreturm, and Highgrove.
