Chedworth Villa
Located near Cheltenham, Chedworth Villa is one of the finest examples of a Roman luxury residence in the UK. Over one mile of Roman walls remain and as it is set in a wooded Cotswold Combe, the surrounding area has changed little since antiquity.
Discovered quite by accident in 1864 by a local gamekeeper who was digging for a lost ferret, the site boasts over 32 rooms in addition to a number of Roman mosaics. The museum on site houses many of the more fragile discoveries and has displays to fully explain the history of Chedworth Villa.
In 1924 the National Trust became involved with Chedworth Villa, ensuring its preservation and maintenance for future generations.
