Birthday treat

Pippa, Bedfordshire, stayed: May 2019

We had a lovely stay. The room was small but nicely presented, clean and comfortable. Our meal in the Magnolia was fabulous and the breakfast the next day, delicious. We enjoyed a relaxing drink in the bar in the early evening which was a real treat. Would recommend a stay here.

Half and half

AS, Somerset, stayed: June 2017

Excellent fine dining restaurant, but only open Wednesday to Saturday. Self service breakfast OK for business people, but those on a relaxing stay woukd like something better.
Rooms small, no proper wardrobe, two tiny drawers, again, OK for overnight, but not for a longer stay.
Lovely grounds.

Friendly and helpful staff at a comfortable hotel

TonyW, Hampshire, stayed: September 2017

I was particularly impressed by the staff at the Sudbury House Hotel. They were friendly, welcoming and efficient, and always ready to offer help for instance, to those who couldn't work out how to open the drawers in their bedroom, because there were no handles.  The rooms were somewhat austere in appearance; obviously a designer had been at work! Our room was adequately equipped for a 2-night stay, but you'd be a bit short of space to store your clothes if you were staying longer. Everything was of good quality, and very clean. The beds had the usual decorative cushions you find everywhere these days what are you supposed to do with the things when you want to go to sleep? We dumped ours on the floor.  We greatly enjoyed the food in the Brasserie. It was well cooked and was served very efficiently. The lounge was comfortable with a well-stocked bar. There was plenty of information about Faringdon and the surrounding area. The hotel was a nice place to come back to after a day out, and we enjoyed our stay there.

An enjoyable stay

Anon, stayed: August 2019

Best features - courteous and friendly staff (especially Jemma in the restaurant). Warm cookies on arrival, fruit, and water in glass bottles in our room all unexpected and appreciated. Lovely food in the restaurant.
Quite interesting to see the open kitchen, but not so keen on seeing occasional member of "backstage" kitchen staff wearing extremely casual/ leisure clothes. An apron or something similar would look more professional.
Room well appointed and serviced.Woodwork/doors in public areas would benefit from coat of paint.
Represented good value for money.

Really enjoyed this weekend break .
We spent 2 nights at this
stunning hotel situated within lovely grounds .
The local village is quite nice with plenty of pubs.
The hotel staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
We ate both nights in the restaurant and I have to say the food was excellent.
On the first night we was unable to use the Magnolia restaurant as there was a wedding on but this was what not a problem as the secondary restaurant sufficed nicely .
On our second night we used the Magnolia restaurant and had pizzas which again were excellent .
We also had the breakfast included . Plenty of everything you want for breakfast including full English. Absolutely delicious!
I would highly recommend the pizza which are all cooked on view in a proper pizza oven .
Waitresses serving us were lovely and very helpful .

35 mins from the hotel you can drive to the heart of the Cotswolds which we did visiting Bibury and Burton on the water . Bibury is absolutely gorgeous and well with a look.
Overall I would highly recommend .

Good

SD, hampshire, stayed: October 2020

The location of the hotel is perfect for country walks and is 5 mins from the local town of Faringdon. The town is full of pubs and good for a mooch about.
It was unfortunate that Restaurant 56 was closed when I stayed due to Covid-19. This was one main reason why I booked the stay. However I found the whole experience relaxing and the food in the Magnolia restaurant was just as tasty! The staff were friendly and helpful.
Great for a quiet weekend away.

Good location

Colin B, Dorset, stayed: September 2020

Staff very friendly and helpful, COVID made things very difficult and therefore hard to be objective.
Roast lamb for Sunday dinner very tasty but swamped with gravy. Much better in a gravy boat and
I should have commented at the time. My fault!
Would stay again but not during COVID restrictions
