Not so good as last time!

Anon, stayed: August 2020

We returned to this hotel because it was excellent on our last visit (pre-Covid). Regrettably I don't think we will return. We ended up with the same room as last time, located at the top of the hotel with a bathroom radiator that was boiling hot on one of the hottest days of the year (the hotel got their engineer to shut it down). The shower attachment in the bath was practically unusable due to lack of enclosure or shower head rest when standing - 2nd time we've put up with this. We asked for the room upgrade (as promised by offpeak subject to availability) of course there was no availability. The hotel had worked hard to accommodate the virus situation but the meals were not as good as our previous visit (limited choice of evening meal when you're on a 3 night stay). Breakfast continental choice was almost non-existent from our previous experience but the cooked options were well prepared & delicious. The Spa treatment (wife's manicure) was too expensive, not applied well & could not be rectified in full due to lack of items needed, not in stock!

2 day break

After lockdown it was nice to get away and spoil ourselves for my wife s birthday. We had pre booked pool use and dinner each night and both lived up to expectation. Social distancing and other precautions excellent. Lovely break

Wonderful stay, fantastic staff, definitely coming back

Samantha M, stayed: August 2020

I booked into the hotel for 5 days for a virtual conference that was being run on US EST time, so very antisocial hours in the UK. I explained to staff beforehand that I'd have some specific needs ref a quiet location, plenty of space, was bringing a dog for company, odd mealtimes, and so forth. Not only did they carry forward all of the requests impeccably when i was there, they went out of their way, every single member of staff, to make me feel welcome, and help me to adjust and get the best out of their facilities and my time at the conference. And they made Bobby feel hugely welcome too. I literally felt like it was a home from home which is just what i wanted after a long 15 hour work day. Plus, the room (i had a suite for space to work) was gorgeous, with lovely dark curtains for sleeping through the morning, comfy furniture and good facilities (a couple more drawers for clothes was the only thing i would have added). The restaurant went out of their way to keep my meals interesting and time appropriate. The grounds were the most wonderful escape whenever we had a quick break and the spa was a fantastic relaxation before each day started. I really can't praise them highly enough and plan to bring my husband back as soon as possible to share in the lovely atmosphere they create. Thank you.

A few tweaks and it could be 10 out of 10!

Kate, Kent, stayed: August 2020

Beautiful building and Great Gatsby aesthetics.
Gourmet food and a stunning spa. Lovely cocktails and polite staff.
Tweaks..mattress needs changing, more veggie options for guests staying for 3 nights (same menu), 45 mins spa use for 3 days feels a little mean and more generous with teas and coffee in the room would be nice (covid= no one enters to clean or top up). With thanks.

Exceeded expectations!

Hazel, Surrey, stayed: September 2020

I can't praise this hotel enough! Everything was excellent!  We stayed here for two nights with evening meals and breakfast included.  The food was outstanding and well presented. There was a very relaxed feeling in the restaurant and you didn't feel rushed like you do at some hotel restaurants where they bring out the mains immediately after the starters have been finished! At the same time service was not slow.  The room was very pleasant and airy and the bed very comfortable. I have arthritis and often don't get a good night's sleep when staying in hotels but I did here.
The spa was fabulous too! We only used the pool and outdoor hot tub but both were of a good standard. The pool was mid sized, larger than many hotel pools but not too small that you couldn't get a decent swim. This was aided by the fact you have to book your pool time due to Corona Virus and limited to three families/groups at a time. The hot tub is in a lovely courtyard setting.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly!
The gardens are spectacular and there are fabulous views from the dining rooms. We even saw a fawn resting by a hedge from our bedroom window.
The hotel location is perfect for days out in Cheltenham and Glouster. We particularly loved Gloucester with it's developed dock area and historic features of its Town Centre.
I would fully recommend this hotel to all my friends!  We will perhaps return; though we like to try new places.
