Lovely Cotswold s hotel
Lovely hotel within easy walking distance of pleasant town with its own nice hotels/bars for eating and drinking. Also nice walk to the famous folly. Good menu in the restaurant and hearty breakfast.
Promises 4 star comfort but fails
Very limited and expensive evening restaurant menu which never altered during our 3 night stay. No food available at all throughout the day.so had to go out for lunch. Breakfast adequate but unexciting, Room basic with shortage of towels, 2 bath and 1 hand for 2 guests and only 4 coat hangers. Hotel at edge of village with a steep walk to and from it. Overall a poor experience and not what we would expect from a 4 star. .
Not a luxury break!!
Room clean but very little storage space (two small drawers, five coat hangers, no wardrobe) No safe, no fridge, shower caps or sanitary disposal bags. 2 bath towels 1 hand towel for two guests. Very basic tea/coffee making equipment. The grounds were beautiful and well cared for which is the only real plus point. Breakfast very basic, no made to order food eg eggs Benedict which is usual in an hotel that is classed as 4 star. Evening meals not good. Little choice and rather expensive for food of a substandard quality. No tablecloths just "Formica" type bare tables. Absolutely no food available at lunchtime so obliged to leave the hotel. The hotel was totally unable to find a taxi or transport for us to go into Faringdon (one guest with problems walking) The staff were very pleasant but in the dining room desperately overworked, especially at breakfast time. This is most definitely NOT a 4 star hotel.
Enjoyable stay and pleasant staff. Not all perks included though
I stayed at the Sudbury House Hotel with my wife, Natalie and our 9 month old Maltipoo, Primrose. First impressions were very good, the entrance and reception areas looked very clean and the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming.
We headed to our room which was a nice size, clean and had a nice view overlooking the patio/garden area.
When booking our stay via CotswoldHotelBreaks.com we opted for a package deal which included a bottle of prosecco and chocolates in the room on arrival so we were disappointed this was not in the room when checking in. After settling in, we went to the restaurant for dinner and I mentioned to the nice lady on reception that the prosecco and chocolates were not in the room. She quickly apologized and said they were waiting to see which night we wanted these so I confirmed, we would be happy to have them the following evening instead and the receptionist confirmed they would make the arrangement and apologized again.
Disappointingly, on return to our room the following evening (after a full day out in the Cotswolds) the prosecco and chocolate were again absent from the room. I didn't want to have to raise a complaint about this so we decided to just leave it but it was quite frustrating that our package deal wasn't honored so we lost out on some of the benefits we had paid for. Especially after raising the issue the day prior.
That did sour the experience somewhat as we were looking forward to enjoying these in the evening.
Otherwise everything else was great and the food was delicious. Thank you.
