Away from it all
We had stayed here before, so wanted to visit again. Excellent value. Lovely gardens and local walks, ideal base for visiting Gloucester and local area. Look forward to coming again.
Nice location accomodation tired
The room was some distance from reception and had an musty lingering smell. The room and especially the bathroom looked tired and needed upgrading /refurbishing .
Could do better!
We have just enjoyed a few days with you in Room 25 and would like to say thanks for the break, flowers and chocolates.
We spoke just as we were departing about the freezing cold bathroom and I understand you are going to refurbish this room at the start of the New Year which is good. You should also perhaps check the hot sink tap which needed turning FULLY on to get water through. Thankfully you had also just altered the central heating clock so it stayed on longer in the morning and came on earlier in the afternoon. When we returned from Slimbridge on our first full day the room was icy cold and so were we from walking round for hours. Not the most welcoming feeling. There were a few other things I noticed about the hotel and I hope you don t mind my passing these on in the spirit of constructive criticism!
1 As I mentioned, the lovely thick lined curtains in our room hang over the radiator, blocking out the heat which, on days like you had this week, was a nuisance!
2 There was very little table room: once the tray was out for the coffee and tea places for cosmetics etc was extremely limited.
3 We found the wardrobe was extremely small just for 2 of us possibly because we had heavier coats which took up room but as a family room I can't see it being nearly big enough and there is plenty of room for a larger one.
4 Although I suspect there is little that can be done, every time someone walked across the corridor above that room, they sounded like a ten ton elephant and the floorboards creaked. I would lay there waiting to see whether they would come back. This happened at 0100 and 0500 so not times you really wanted to be awake.
5 With beautiful rooms such as the lounge, bar and dining rooms, the lighting was dreadfully dismal and cold. Some small lamps placed strategically would add softer light, warmth and ambiance to these rooms.
6 The food was well cooked but we did feel it was slightly overpriced.
We did enjoy our stay but hope you will be able to take on board these comments. Unless things improve am unlikely to stay there again.
Lovely hotel - great food
A lovely relaxed hotel for couples or families - service could not fault, restaurant food freshly prepared and nice choice.
Relaxing break
We stayed for 4 nights. There was a wedding on our first night but it did not intrude on the running of the hotel in either service or noise. We had a wonderful room overlooking the gardens and canal. Lovely peaceful walk along the canal just through the garden gate. Excellent location for visiting the Cotswolds. Even the cleaning staff were helpful with finding services in the locality. We would definitely stay again.
A 90th birthday party
We stayed for three days. The grounds lead down to the church and the old canal.
It's a busy through-route, but the staff at the hotel were helpful beyond the call of duty. Slimbridge perhaps over-rated, but pleasant walks close at hand.
Stonehouse Court
Food excellent, rooms and in particular corridors in need of updating. All in all however good value for money
Fantastic Beak
We had one night here and from start to finish it was fantastic. The afternoon tea which we pre booked was excellent as was the meal in the restaurant later that evening.
The rooms are superb and we had a lovely view of the grounds.
All in all it was a relaxing break and we will return.
