Facilities at Stonehouse Court

17th Century Manor House is set in 6 acres of stunning grounds overlooking the Stroud Water Canal and rolling hills of the Stroud Valley.

At the foot of the hotel grounds, you'll find a tranquil stretch of water known as the Stroudwater Navigation, which links Stroud to the Severn Estuary via a secluded 8-mile passage. Following an act of Parliament in 1759, the Stroudwater was constructed over a period of 20 years, opening 12 years before the Thames & Severn Canal in 1779.

Attractive gardens and lawns are the perfect place for a peaceful stroll, glass of Pimms or even a game of Croquet - the most traditional of English summer pastimes! You can enjoy the fragrances of our flowerbeds, the breathtaking views or take the time to simply unwind. An arched gateway leads from the end of the garden through to the canal from where you can explore the countryside beyond.

In Anglo-Saxon it was known as Stanhus and the rights and tenements of the Manorial Lordship were granted to William D'Ow by his cousin William the Conqueror.

The Court Brasserie

The Court Brasserie at Stonehouse Court Hotel combines the classic charm of the 17th Century Manor with contemporary and informal modern British cuisine, using local ingredients across a seasonal menu, alongside an extensive wine list.

The restaurant takes its name from the properties historical 'Justices Room', where local administration of public justice took place during the 19th century, often presided over by a regional magistrate. Despite this, we can assure you the staff nowadays are considerably less judgmental!

Friendly hotel

Anon, stayed: June 2019

My husband and I stayed with a group of friends. We found the staff very helpful. The restaurant was more than adequate. I would recommend the hotel to couples and to groups.

We stayed as part of a 25 people group. We were well looked after and had a good choice from a fixed menu. The grounds are nice and well cared for.
The only downsides were a quite awkward walk to the room with a heavy case and a lack of hangers

A good choice for a short away break

Anon, stayed: May 2019

Very friendly and helpful staff, and hotel and grounds are very attractive. Restaurant food is excellent, though menu might be a bit restrictive for a long stay.

'Sorry' was the most used word

RS, Devon, stayed: February 2019

Having booked our 'special' break some weeks in advance, which included a 25 allowance on dinner in the restaurant on the first night, to be told, 'Sorry' there would be no tables available until 8:30pm was not a good start. A meal was made available earlier in a sitting room or bar - but not what we had ordered.
On the second night we got a meal in the restaurant there was another 'sorry' for us - no salt in a salt shaker. But not only for us but 'sorry' was a word which came to the lips of staff when talking to other guests. It became noticeable - not that they shouldn't say it when things were not right, it's just that it appeared that things were not right on a lot of occasions.
Then the wedding parties - no doubt spending inordinately large amounts of money - but resulting in there being no place for other guests to relax. Even when we took ourselves outside - in February - to sit and read, we were approached and asked, politely, to move because they wanted to take photographs. The wedding party the next day was perhaps even more noisy. Even when they had moved on to the evening events room - the music in the bar and sitting room was not adjusted for the quieter atmosphere, even after a gentle request.
So why didn't we go and relax in our room? 1 it was over the bar. 2 It wasn't a suite and though a double, only one easy chair. And while on the room - tea and coffee making equipment in the bottom of the wardrobe; TV in front of the window giving a view of the garden; old but impactable chest of 36 small drawers. Not what I expected when booking.
We enjoyed each other company - had 44 years practice; enjoyed the walk into Stroud along the canal; enjoyed our visit to the Rocco Gardens at Painswick and our visit to the Methodist Church in Stonehouse after checking out on the Sunday.
We admire the staff who were pleasant and helpful - and as apologetic when they needed to be. It can't be easy for them.
Would we stay there again? very unlikely. It is doubtful the establishment would be able to meet the expectation we had for the money paid.
