Disappointing stay

David, Kent, stayed: September 2021

Hotel is in an excellent location in the charming town of Morton in Marsh. Checked in at 3pm. Male receptionist polite but not particularly welcoming. Room was very clean and warm, albeit a bit tired and dated. Luxurious Molton Brown toiletries but very cheap mouldy single ply toilet paper. Broken seal in shower which was reported first thing in the morning, but was not fixed during 3 night stay.
First night we had cocktails which was included in our package. - it took the barman by surprise but did eventually find a cocktail list and told us in no uncertain terms that it was only the 10 cocktails included in the package. A younger barman appeared and served us two very nice 10 cocktails. We took our seats In the restaurant, ordered a bottle of wine, and the waitress came to take our order. We ordered our starters, but unfortunately when we went to order our main courses, it transpired we had been given the lunch menu. Correct menu was brought to us, and we ordered our main courses from a different waiter who very apologetic. However, our main courses arrived before our starters and were taken away and our starters then served which were excellent. However, my main course was Fish of the Day, and when it arrived for the second time, it had obviously been sitting on a hot plate and had turned to rubber. The manageress was very apologetic and gave us complimentary desserts, coffees, further drinks and didn t charge us for the bottle of wine.
Breakfast on all three mornings was very nice with attentive staff. The night receptionist was very pleasant and engaging, and wished a goodnight and good morning every day.
The ability to park at the front of the hotel was most welcome.
Excellent location to explore the Cotswolds; however did find far better restaurants and bars in the immediate area.

Awful food and very basic for the price

WL, West Sussex, stayed: August 2021

For 32 filet steak and triple cooked chips. The chips were rarer than the steak and were completely undercooked. The steak was fibrous and tasteless (I discovered the steaks were frozen and not fresh). Breakfast sausages were low quality and on at least one occasion we were not offered any toast. The Baked Alaska , which should be made with vanilla ice cream, without any warning came with chocolate pistachio and vanilla and resembled something straight out of the freezer from Iceland. There was clearly at least one wasps nest within the outside seating area, making it impossible to enjoy any food or drinks outside.

The only positive was the staff who all seemed to be doing their best I trying circumstances.

We found the hotel accommodation and location good but the restaurant let the hotel down with no staff and poor food but the staff which were available tried their best under the circumstances.

Lovely Cotswold hotel

Anon, stayed: July 2021

This is a lovely hotel with plenty of outdoor seating in the grounds. Our room (room 1) on the ground floor seemed to be set up for wheelchair users, which we were not. Miniscule wash basin in the bathroom, otherwise nice room. As we were just coming out of covid restrictions, there was no room service or cleaning of rooms. The restaurant food was adequate, but not great. The staff, especially on reception, were friendly and helpful.

To be absolutely honest, we were a little disappointed, and reading about the history of the hotel in the room information, we felt it had perhaps seen better days and higher standards in the past.

A pleasant stay

Andy J, West Sussex, stayed: July 2021

An efficient check in. Room was cosy which was ok but if I returned I d upgrade to a larger room. Bathroom very cramped with poor shower pressure. Could have done with an update or revamp. Garden was lovely to have pre dinner drinks. Food was very good and service satisfactory.
