Very poor meal in restaurant that ruined our stay

Anon, stayed: February 2018

When we arrived for our cream tea we sat down at a table that was dirty. When they brought over our cream tea they didn't bother to clean the table. The cream tea was delicious and the gluten free scones were absolutely marvellous! The good double bedroom was very cosy and for the offer rate we got, the value was ok but I wouldn't pay the standard rate for it. The breakfast was ok but I'd recommend they get a broader selection of continental food. We dined in the fine dining section of the restaurant but it was very poor. We are both gluten free having told the restaurant twice in advance. They didn't know this on arrival and on a few occasions brought us food with gluten in. When we advised them we couldn't eat it they chucked some gluten free crackers on the table and didn't even bother to remove the gluten food. We had paid £60 each for the taster menu so this was very unacceptable. The manager was very apologetic and has invited us back for a free meal as compensation.

Good but let down by extra charges

David J, Bedfordshire, stayed: December 2017

We booked and paid in advance for a gourmet tasting break. The meal and service at the table were excellent but on checking out the next day we were asked to pay 10 for the water that was allready on the table when we sat down for which nobody had mentioned a charge, plus a gratuity of about 20.  Had this break been a gift it would have been very embarrassing.  The room, despite the break offer sugesting it would be upgraded, was small, we had to discover how to get the heated towel rail to work and it took 2 members of staff on two visits to get the television to work at all. These things should have been checked before our arrival.

Fabulous!

JH, Berkshire, stayed: March 2017

Really lovely little hotel with a wonderful atmosphere and relaxing style. Cosy but luxurious rooms and a great restaurant. Their 8 course gourmet tasting menu is perfect.  They very kindly contacted us in advance to warn us of a wedding taking place on one of the days we were staying and to let us know we might hear music until 12:30am. They said they would put us in the furthest away rooms but couldn't guarantee we would be undisturbed. It didn't worry us and I have to say it was one of the quietest rooms we have ever stayed in, especially given that we overlooked the High Street. No sounds at all! Lovely staff, really helpful. Can't wait to go back.

New Year's Eve hotel break

Anon, stayed: December 2016

We booked a New Year's eve package at short notice. Not cheap, but the food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Hotel has a historic/quality feel and Moreton in the Marsh is an interesting/quaint town to visit. The room was generally OK; although bath but no shower. Silliest thing was a room safe that required lying down and using a torch to operate!  We took a barman's recommendation on the gin for a G&T and had probably the best G&Ts we have ever tasted!

We say...

After contacting you for additional feedback your review was forwarded to the hotel's Deputy Manager.

Firstly they were disappointed to learn that you did not enjoy your recent stay with them.  The hotel is committed to providing the highest standard of service, hence the Deputy Manager does chat to all the guests to ensure everyone is looked after well. He is sorry that you felt he was interrupting you and would like to assure you that there was no intention to do so.

Your feedback regarding the room and service in the restaurant has been used in their operations meeting and discussed with their Head Chef and Restaurant Manager.  They sincerely regret that they fell short of their goal in this instance.

Kind regards

Offpeakluxury
