Disappointing
It was a very cold day. Our room was beyond freezing. Eventually we were given another room also in the annex. The pool is not at the spa and it was closed. It s outdoor! We didn t go to the spa - it was too cold to get there from the annex. This is not a Spa Hotel.
The dining room was closed! We had to eat in the bar on my birthday!
Huge bill. The food was well below the standard I would have expected. Wine ridiculously expensive.
What was supposed to be a special night was very disappointing in every way.
The bed was comfortable & the bathroom was very nice.

Great hotel and spa - shame about the restaurant
The hotel and its staff are lovely. We had a relaxing few days and the spa treatments were superb. However the restaurant was not up to 5 star standard. The breakfast was not cooked to order but was help yourself. We understand some work was being carried out in the kitchen to cause this, but we should have been informed beforehand and been given a chance to rearrange out trip, which we would have done. The dinner food was very good, but we booked the restaurant and instead were seated in the inferior horse box. No explanation was given for this switch. A shame these spoilt our other otherwise excellent stay.

Restaurant and food lovely
Breakfast choice amazing
Staff super friendly but felt they needed a bit more training / guidance
Room ok but not 5 star. Had to get on your hands and knees to get to the tea/coffee making facilities
Bath panel middle section discoloured and orange/brown stains
Pool area untidy used cups/glasses
Reception/front of house manager was very helpful and listened to our comments and apologised and provided a discount
Location beautiful
Cocktails also lovely
A fabulous break
We had the most wonderful first wedding anniversary. The hotel is beautiful, especially bathed in evening sunshine when the colour of the stone is revealed in it's full glory. The staff were most helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive. The room was luxurious yet relaxing and comfortable. The breakfast and dining experiences were equally special, truly delicious. We have recommended the hotel to friends and family and we'll have to come back to experience the wonderful Hall with a roaring fire for an afternoon tea to remember.
Great night
Absolutely lovely location and setting, Room and staff were great. Spa was a little small but nice. Food was very nice especially the breakfast. Overall a great experience.
Weekend break
Sadly the customer service really let this beautiful place down, from waiting at checkin to breakfast and a sense of being an inconvenience to the staff. Definitely not 5 star and not a weekend we would look to repeat.
Long weekend
We stayed here for 3 nights with another couple and enjoyed the weekend. 3 nights was too long in the restaurant as the menu didn't change and was not very extensive. also the 1.5 hour wait for our main course was unacceptable particularly when we told they were busy with a party. we were offered a free bottle of wine to compensate for the wait but it shouldn't have happened.
The room however was great, we had a luxury room at the top of the tower which involved 63 steps. Superb views when we got there though. The swimming pool was great and the spa was also nice but quite small.
