Our much too short stay at the HYLL
Nowhere to hang anything in bathroom.
Downlighting in bedroom made the room very dark.
A mirror in the bedroom would have been most welcome.
For a guest of 5ft 2 inches, the chairs were much too low and made eating very uncomfortable.
The housekeeper who cleaned our room was entirely unsatisfactory. Nothing was touched or cleaned.
However, all the staff were welcoming and charming and nothing was too much trouble. The Manor itself was delightful.
I should also like to point out that the change in name of the Manor was very unhelpful. We were completely unaware that the name had been changed, as were the hotel bookers. WAZE, the name of the direction finder we used, could not find Charingworth Manor and announced we had reached our destination in the middle of Chipping Camden. If it hadn't been for a very kind man who offered to lead us to the HYLL, we would never have found it.
However, all the staff
Overall disappointing
Access to hotel closed, difficult to find.Building work in process around hotel, spoilt the ambience.
Staff and food in restaurant very good

Hotel very impressive on arrival, grounds well maintained. Outside seating areas clean, ample and comfortable. Staff very knowledgeable, polite, attentive. This applies to reception staff and resturant staff. Hotel well maintained, excellent decor, abundant reading material, interesting art work and all public areas well maintained. Room ,on 1st impression, very dark. Needed to use phone torch to see in the tea/coffee area, minor problems i.e. TV very complicated, neither staff or ourselves couldn't get "normal" channels! Door to room and bathroom opened on to wall which will cause damage. Shower to small, glad we are not large! Room attempting to be very modern but a number of other guests asked to be moved due to lack of lighting. Hotel advertised with swimming pool, this was demolished months ago, a big disappointment, not the hotel fault but the advertising agency. We did enjoy the break, a few minor issues so the above "complaints" where all mentioned to hotel staff. Over-all great hotel which will improve and satisfy the clientelle it hopes to attract.
Not what it used to be
Third visit. Where the pool used to be a demolition site. Stayed in a courtyard room. Courtyard looked neglected with weeds, wood offcuts and sawdust and a nail from the building work and a cigarette butt. The room was very dark and the TV only worked intermittently due to its reliance on streaming and poor connectivity. The staff we met did their best and the restaurant was as good as ever, but the English country character that drew us there in the first place has largely been lost in the areas we saw that have been re-modelled in the building work and refurbishment that was still ongoing. Hotel acknowledged state of the courtyard was unacceptable and apologised and did try to make amends, though not to the point of tidying the courtyard. It was not the experience we were expecting
Relax and chill
So very welcoming. The staff get full marks for attentiveness and the hotel gave the relaxing feeling that we wanted.
The beds were THE most comfortable we've slept in .

Disappointed that the pool had been done away with
As we have been before
Was one of the reasons for the
Visit

Shame about the builders on site! Clearly will be a hotel for us to return to. Barton s? Was a good asset. Very pleasant general manager.
Unusual combination of historic and modernistic in a beautiful location.
Found staff welcoming and very helpful but did not like our room - too modernistic for our taste, I.e. room seemed gloomy due to lighting (few small spotlights and couple of table lamps),complete lack of drawers and only mirror was in the bathroom.
