Disappointed

Christine, Essex, stayed: April 2025

Unfortunately although I had an email to say the swimming pool could be out of action there was a lot of building work going on for all our stay . We were told they were refurbishing and our room was already done. It was very dark, the only mirror was in the bathroom there was no instructions for coffee machine or TV and to be fair the receptionist was happy to come and sort those two problems out. The price of drinks were exceptionally high.

Lovely location but expensive and rooms not nice

Richard P, Berkshire, stayed: March 2025

A fabulous location with fantastic views. The rooms, however, were not very nice. Dark brown ceilings and walls with no mirror to dress by and not a picture or anything on the dark walls. A maze of passageways to get to rooms with no signs to help.
The restaurant service was good but the food pretentious for my liking and lots of add-ons when it came to paying the bill.

Very disappointing stay

MH, Shropshire, stayed: March 2025

Certainly not the luxury experience we were expecting. Our room had a lovely view, but only one chair in which to sit and enjoy it. The kettle was on top of a five foot high cupboard so not user friendly.
The bath was unusually high so I was unable to climb in to use the shower.
There was no television in the room and, when we mentioned this at checkout, the young lady remarked people don t come to the Cotswolds to watch telly! . Not only was this comment completely misguided, but it was also extremely rude and patronising.
The patio seating area at the back of the hotel looked untidy and uncared for with stone slabs lying about and tables left uncleared. And finally, after we d booked, we were notified that the pool had been closed.
I should be grateful if you would send a copy of this review to the hotel as, unusually, they have not asked for a review themselves

Disappointed

Anon, stayed: March 2025

I have just returned from a recent stay wuth my husband at the Charingworth Manor hotel in the Cotswolds.
I booked this particular hotel as I like to swim daily and it was advertised it as a hotel with a pool.
On arrival we were shown around the hotel and to our room, noting an abundance of workmen vans taking up all of one area of car parking.
I asked where the pool was and was shown the pool entrance door which said it was out of use. The receptionist apologised and indicated this must only just have happened and maybe it would be back in order in the next couple of days, which it clearly would not as it was all but empty.
Further discussions with other staff revealed it was closed the week before our stay due to boiler problems and as it was due to be closed on 1st April anyway there was no point repairing it.
I was deeply disappointed by this, as apparently we're other guests. I noted your site now says the pool will close on 1st April. It did not when we booked.
Our room was opposite a corridor where work was being carried out, which we could hear quite clearly.
Half the hotel is apparently closed for extensive refurbishment, not mentioned at all.
If we had been aware of all this we would definitely not have chosen this hotel for our break.
On the plus side the room was clean, the small amount of staff polite and helpful.
We do, however, feel short changed and misinformed.

3 day midweek break

John S, herts, stayed: March 2025

Typical smallish country house hotel. Few staff around - which didn t matter much, but I m 78 and lugged a suitcase upstairs - could hardly ask the 7 stone young lady receptionist.

Nice room. Again, typical - crawling around to find a plug socket for chargers. Same thing as Clivedon.

Nice reception areas and restaurant, with charming staff.

Taken together, recommended.

Biggest failing - lavatory paper reminiscent of Izal of my youth. Unbelievable.

A return visit

Steve G, Suffolk, stayed: March 2025

We last stayed at Charingworth Manor we over 30 years ago and it's still a charming place to stay. It now has new owners who are making exciting changes and renovations. Planning a return visit in the Autumn to see it's progressing. The wonderful staff also make the place from reception to the lovely restaurant team.
