Hotel very impressive on arrival, grounds well maintained. Outside seating areas clean, ample and comfortable. Staff very knowledgeable, polite, attentive. This applies to reception staff and resturant staff. Hotel well maintained, excellent decor, abundant reading material, interesting art work and all public areas well maintained. Room ,on 1st impression, very dark. Needed to use phone torch to see in the tea/coffee area, minor problems i.e. TV very complicated, neither staff or ourselves couldn't get "normal" channels! Door to room and bathroom opened on to wall which will cause damage. Shower to small, glad we are not large! Room attempting to be very modern but a number of other guests asked to be moved due to lack of lighting. Hotel advertised with swimming pool, this was demolished months ago, a big disappointment, not the hotel fault but the advertising agency. We did enjoy the break, a few minor issues so the above "complaints" where all mentioned to hotel staff. Over-all great hotel which will improve and satisfy the clientelle it hopes to attract.

So very welcoming. The staff get full marks for attentiveness and the hotel gave the relaxing feeling that we wanted.
The beds were THE most comfortable we've slept in .

Unusual combination of historic and modernistic in a beautiful location.

GP, Cornwall, stayed: August 2025

Found staff welcoming and very helpful but did not like our room - too modernistic for our taste, I.e. room seemed gloomy due to lighting (few small spotlights and couple of table lamps),complete lack of drawers and only mirror was in the bathroom.

Below expectations

JF, Lincolnshire, stayed: August 2025

Room too dark, brown walls.
Lighting very poor.
No bedside cabinets just solid block of wood..
No drawers.
Had to crawl under unit to plug in hairdryer.
Shower small. No directions.
Only 1 small mirror on unit in bedroom.
Bed cover also very dark which didn't help.
Bed was clean and comfortable.
TV was very difficult to work with no instructions.
We were in room 24 and the outside bannister was very dirty with brick dust.
The dining room although nice and clean and modern had tub chairs that were so low your chin was near to the table, you needed 2 cushions to lift you to a comfortable height.
Food was very good.
It was a shame about the room because the staff were very nice and the location was great.
We were in an annexe not the main house and I was told the bedrooms in the main house were much better designed.

Newly refurbished room27

Anon, stayed: August 2025

This was our fifth visit to Charingworth Ma nor and the most disappointing. We stayed in the recently refurbished room 27 which was most unsatisfactory. The new decor was dingy to say the least, There was no explanatory leaflets on how to operate the new tv, or coffee machine, nor any welcome letter from management.

The restaurant is still very good and the exterior grounds beautiful. Staff as always most courteous and helpful.
