Lovely hotel with amazing food
Very nice place to stay, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. As someone who has to follow a gluten free diet it was wonderful, virtually everything on the dinner menu was gf! Better choice of gf cereal at breakfast would have been nice.
Room was nice, steps up to the hay barn were a bit much and a plumber needs to sort the dripping tap in the bathroom. Otherwise the room was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend it.
Disappointed and not up to our expectations
Staff were helpful and pleasant. The hotel, we were told, was shabby/chic but shabby was more appropriate. Our room in the Piggeries was scrappily furnished and the furniture was more damaged than distressed. The en suite just had a small windowsill to put our things on. The shower woke us in the middle of the night dripping loudly and we had to put a towel in the bath to stop the noise. We didn t feel shabby chic extended to the mould on the skirting board and the black dirt along the front of the bath was unpleasant. The toilet cistern handle hung down and if pushed the wrong way the water didn t stop running through the cistern. The restaurant menu was limited in choice and expensive. The odd chairs were not comfortable to sit on. A cautionary note - the hotel driveway sits on a blind bend on a main road with a 50mph limit. The only pavement is on the opposite side of the road and we came close to being run over on walking back from the bus. It was a disappointing experience
Disappointing
This hotel is full of by gone artefacts and when I say full it's having with old stuff. I expect it would be termed shabby chic but it is definitely more shabby. The lounge was so dark you could hardlysee.
The exterior is shabby too, verging on neglected. There are rotting wagon wheels lying around, the paving is uneven and weedy.
Our room was clean and the bed comfortable. It was behind the kitchen so a little noisy at time.
The food is okay, the menu was the same everyday with no daily specials, which would have added variety. Generally it was well cooked and tasty. However, there were some disappointments, I ordered a side of roasted root veg and when they turned up they were black. Not just around the edges but like charcoal and solid. When I was asked if everything was okay I said that these were I edible and the waitress said "okay" and walked off. A while later the waiter came over and asked why I was complaining, I showed him them and he tried to tell me this is how they came and they were par boiled then roasted. I said again that they were incredible however they were cooked and banged them against the dish to prove my point. He finally said he would take them off the bill, but got no apology. I don't know how any self respecting cool would have sent them out.
We booked here specifically for the fact it had a pool and gym. The first day I went to reception to get towels and the code, however when we got to the pool it was freezing, far to cold to swim in. When I inquired if that was the normal temperature I was told no the boiler had been broken for several weeks and they were waiting for it to be repaired. It would have been nice to been told that when I went to get the towels. We also enquired about where to get the busses into Bath, we were told to go the stop on the wrong side of road and when we asked if this was really correct the receptionist gave us a long story about it going round in a loop to get there. However, he was wrong and if we hadn't checked on line we would have ended up going in the wrong direction.
Overall, we were very disappointed and would not go back there.
The staff were friendly but we felt they needed more training in customer services.

A lovely weekend stay at an excellent location with very helpful staff.
Sadly the pool heating had gone wrong so that impacted our stay as we really wanted to swim as part of our break away.
Rooms were lovely but a bit cluttered with antiques ,I m sure lots of people will like that, but I d rather be minimalist personally.
Food was really good especially breakfast. If I had one complaint it would be to have a couple more main meals on the menu to choose from.
All in all it was a lovely weekend with lots of nice walks locally. The bus to Bath goes from the end of the drive, much better than finding parking in Bath.

Warm Welcome
We thoroughly enjoyed our two day break, and wished we could stay longer. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and one felt as if one was staying with friends in their home. The house had a very good atmosphere.
Our room was charming, and the large bed extremely comfortable. The bathroom was fine, though there was nowhere to dry the towels. A towel rail would have been a help.
We would happily return for a few days.
Disappointing
The food was fairly good. Service patchy, housekeeping poor maintenance worse.
The bathroom needed a refurbishment and painting. The bath panel was disintegrating, the grab handle rusty. A dressing table drawer had no handle. The bedhead and wardrobe needed dusting. The Roman blind needed hemming and the window sill painting. The bedroom was cold but they wouldn't put the heating on. There weren't enough portable heaters for each room. The lounges only sat 6 and we we were in a group of 4 which was awkward. I have put this on Trip Advisor together with the photos. Your agency declined to help, telling us to contact the manager, who was on holiday. We were offered an alternative room which was smaller and the wardrobe had no handle. It was also in an annexe but up two flights of steps which were slippery in the wet weather so we declined.
