Service and friendliness could not be faulted. Food was a bit of a disappointment - dinner lacked flavour but breakfast choices were good. Bar excellent if you like gin. Room (ARTIST'S) was on 2 levels with steep narrow stairs between bedroom and bathroom - to be avoided by elderly and disabled. A very unstable(broken?) side table not fit for purpose. Ground/garden interesting with several places to sit.

Lovely food. Room disappointing.

Cannot fault our evening meals. Excellent quality ingredients and presented beautifully. Choice of cereal at breakfast limited and extra charge for cappuccino/ latte surprising in this type of hotel. Our room was disappointing in the stable conversion. Good size and very clean, but very tired paintwork and very dark. There was excessive condensation on all windows, even when left on ventilation lock resulting in slight damp feeling clothes in the wardrobe. No opaque glass in bathroom window overlooking car park, so blind had to be permanently closed. The room was next to swimming pool and with lack of soundproofing it was noisy at times ( including opera singing at 7.30 am!)

Off peak luxury not up to its name

LD, Cornwall, stayed: September 2023

Widbrook Grange is a lovely country hotel in well kept grounds.
We booked a 24 hr off peak luxury break for two.
The staff throughout our stay were courteous, efficient and friendly. Breakfast and dinner were delicious although I thought they might have tried to source local produce.
Our bed was enormous and very comfortable but the room lacked a full length mirror., and the door into the en-suite would not close properly,
After a late bath I was unable to remove the plug which had no chain or way of levering it up. Consequently morning showers were had calf deep in last nights cold bath water.
The loo roll holder fell apart when it was touched.
After mentioning these irritations by email to the manager I received a very brief acknowledgement and apology . Not luxury I m afraid. Should do better.

Lovely helpful staff and great food but .

Helen E, Hertfordshire, stayed: April 2025

Our rooms were disappointing. The rooms were clean and the bedding lovely but the decor was tired and shabby. Our first room in the piggery had a mouldy rotting Roman blind, the double glazing was full of condensation and the bathroom was scruffy. Lucky for us the room (annexe) had no hot water so we were moved to room 11. It was a much better room but again the bathroom was scruffy. The bathroom had painted peeling off the walls, damp stains, toilet roll holder hanging of the wall and mould around the windows. The owners of the hotel should be ashamed of themselves letting out rooms in that condition.

Lovely stay

MC, Hampshire, stayed: February 2025

Very welcoming staff. Lovely bedroom with the most comfortable bed and pillows . Food was of high quality and staff helpful. Grounds pretty even in the poor weather.I used the swimming pool which was fine once in ,but the air temperature was cold. There appeared to be only one shower available to shower afterwards . As such,I stood shivering in my towel waiting for it to become free. If I had known this I would have brought the dressing gown provided from my room to provide a bit of warmth or gone back to my room in the gown ( although you have to go outside to do this) The one improvement would be to heat up the facilities in this area . Our bedroom was lovely and warm however and the hotel even provided tooth brushes .

Lovely, quirky, place

Anon, stayed: March 2025

A quirky place, and very family and pet friendly. Staff were fabulous. Restaurant food presentation looks lovely, but needs a bit more thoughtfulness on flavours (potato salad had no place on a goats cheese and beetroot dish; something with even a little bit of acidity was needed to balance it - same could be said for the fish dish with deep fried cauliflower and confited onions, it was extraordinarily fatty. The fresh veg were very overcooked and watery, with some pasta in the water in the bottom of the veg serving dish, luckily we are not gluten free). The staff were friendly and attentive, and the setting is beautiful!
