Widbrook Grange
Peaceful setting, large quirky rooms, good food only comment the menu was the same each evening
Short but pleasant stay
We stayed for two nights at this pleasant hotel. The room was very spacious although we had no use for the bath in the room! Staff were helpful in opening windows as it was very hot in the room when we arrived. The fan was useful at night. Food in the restaurant was good but there was a long wait between courses at times. The hotel was very clean and we felt confident in their COVID precautions.
lovely hotel for a break
The hotel was well placed for what we planned to do. It was a pleasant location and we liked the fact that the rooms were in the grounds. We enjoyed the food and wine very much, it was very tasty and the service was excellent. The only problem was the coffee. At breakfast we noted that flat white coffee was available for an extra payment of 2.50. We prefer flat whites so opted for that on our first morning. It really was very poor indeed - a very weak cup of coffee with no flavour at all. Don't be tempted to pay extra for it as it is not worth it. The television was a good size but the picture kept breaking up - surely something could be done to improve this. Apart from those two disappointments it was a lovely couple of days spent there.
Thoroughly enjoyable 2 day break near Bath
We were made very welcome on our arrival, with a staff member carrying our heavy case to the hotel then up the stairs to our room (Room 5 - Music Room). The Receptionists (Lauren and Amelie) were very helpful and efficient. A display of literature on local attractions and maps would have been very helpful.
The room was a good size, but would have benefited from a small table and two chairs. The room needs some minor but important repairs (loose post on the bed, window doesn't shut, no instructions on the TV - difficult to operate). The bathroom featured a 'sink on a bicycle' which looks novel but lacks space to put toiletries. The walk-in shower was excellent.
We had one evening meal in the hotel (excellent quality and service) and one in the Boathouse pub owned by the hotel (also excellent, but rushed service as pub closes at 9pm). Breakfasts in the hotel were absolutely superb, and so was the waitress!
The hotel has an excellent gin bar. We were served by the General Manager (Peter), who also did a wide range of other tasks, all with a smile and a willingness to make our stay memorable.
One Night Break
Extremely enjoyable short break. Good location for walking. Particularly liked the gin bar. Food good, particularly breakfast and service excellent. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. Overall far exceeded expectations. Did not use the spa so cannot comment. Most certainly would stay again.
