Short break in Bradford on Avon
It is with regret that it is not possible to be more positive with the review.
The room allocated was reasonably clean, however the bathroom was not fit for purpose. The drainage from the bath and sink was almost non existant, water from the sink bubbling up into the bath when the plug from the sink was removed. The shower control was broken and when using the shower the water did not drain out and so you were left standing in water up to you ankles and worse, the water had detritus floating in it regurgitated from the pipe work. This problem was reported to a member of staff on two occasions and it was pointed out there was a health and safety issue. Nothing was done to put this right during our short stay. An alternative room was not offered which would have been acceptable, assuming the plumbing was working in other rooms.
We also experienced no hot water, as did others in the Piggery where we were staying. This issue was resolved eventually.
Some of the restaurant staff unfortunately gave the impression they did not want to be there. That said one of the breakfast staff, a lady, was both very friendly and professional. The food was fine overall but the menu was limited for dinner. Breakfast was fine.
In mitigation we were let off our extras charge.
Short break
We had an excellent 2 night break thanks to the Telegraph promotion. The room was really big and the bed very comfortable.
We were looking forward to relaxing in the pool however it was freezing ! at 26deg.
The food was superb, the waitress attentive and friendly.
We were surprised that the side order of chips for 4.50 revealed only 6 chunky chips. Disappointed and amused.
The cheese option for 16 apparently only offered 2 cheeses, one of which was cheddar. We did not partake.
Otherwise all was very good thank you.
Pleasant break.
Room pleasing if a little quirky. Sheets and towels were excellent. Plenty of shampoo etc. but no shower hat. Unfortunately the shower was something of a beast and water flowed abundantly which meant the floor was dripping. The tiles in the shower were also broken.
I found it difficult to open the door to our room in the dark. A sensor light would have been appreciated.

Stay at Widbrook Grange
I recently stayed at Widbrook Grange with a Friend for a two night break.
Our Accommodation in one of the outbuilding annexes was really cosy and inviting, with comfy beds too.
The main Hotel was beautifully decorated in keeping with its Georgian Era and with quirky artistic and rustic touches ( as were the Grounds) as a nod to its former Farmhouse history, we believe.
The Staff were very helpful and friendly and we found the Breakfasts and Dinners to a high standard and good as well.
We also took advantage of the on-site Pool, all in all, a relaxing and homely Stay.
Two night stay in deluxe room
The food, both breakfast and dinner, were excellent quality. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Two factors let down our stay however, the first being the leisure centre- the pool was absolutely freezing, and no lounge chairs to relax in. Finally our room, in the courtyard, while a good size and very comfortable bed, was slightly shabby with peeling paint in places, and felt damp and musty.
Disappointing
The food was fairly good. Service patchy, housekeeping poor maintenance worse.
The bathroom needed a refurbishment and painting. The bath panel was disintegrating, the grab handle rusty. A dressing table drawer had no handle. The bedhead and wardrobe needed dusting. The Roman blind needed hemming and the window sill painting. The bedroom was cold but they wouldn't put the heating on. There weren't enough portable heaters for each room. The lounges only sat 6 and we we were in a group of 4 which was awkward. I have put this on Trip Advisor together with the photos. Your agency declined to help, telling us to contact the manager, who was on holiday. We were offered an alternative room which was smaller and the wardrobe had no handle. It was also in an annexe but up two flights of steps which were slippery in the wet weather so we declined.
Warm Welcome
We thoroughly enjoyed our two day break, and wished we could stay longer. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and one felt as if one was staying with friends in their home. The house had a very good atmosphere.
Our room was charming, and the large bed extremely comfortable. The bathroom was fine, though there was nowhere to dry the towels. A towel rail would have been a help.
We would happily return for a few days.
