Nice hotel but go B&B
Very nice hotel in lovely surroundings. Peaceful location. Staff very friendly. Evening meals were incredibly expensive where the dining allowance barely covered a main course. I d stay here again but only on a B&B basis. Breakfasts were very good.

Some good points but overall - disappointing.
We stayed for two nights in early September on a Daily Telegraph offer. The plus points were - friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed with large feather pillows, lovely shower with huge bath sheets, nice food. I'm afraid that our room and the buildings generally were rather disappointing. I'm not sure if the furnishings were attempting to achieve the "shabby chic" look but our room looked as if it had been furnished as a result of a house clearance. My husband went to sit on a chair in reception only to be enveloped in a cloud of dust and the dining room chairs are stained and dirty. The buildings , generally, looked really neglected - one of the handrails leading to our first floor room ( in an outbuilding )was rotten and coming away from the wall ( I reported it ) and windowsills and doors all needed a lick of paint. There are buckets placed around the courtyard which had once, I imagine , held flowers but now sport only weeds. The gardens, too, looked in need of some attention. I think the staff do their best here but some financial input is needed here if this pretty house , in such an attractive location , is to survive as a destination for those in search of a country house break.
Disappointed with our stay
The room and the bathroom are dated and needs updating. On the first day we did not have hot water.I had to have cold shower and my wife had to have shower in the pool area.
The water was not draining both in the basin and the bath.We had to take shower with bath full of water.
The service is okay and possibly need more staff.
On the positive note,Chef Georgina took care of our dinners as we are vegetarians.
Overall, quite disappointed.
Had a very relaxing couple of days at the hotel,
Autumn mid week break
A relaxing and enjoyable 3 night break in a very spacious and comfortable room in the tastefuly converted stable block. Ideal for accommodating our dog, with a bed, feeding bowls and treats thrown in! A large meadow adjoining the hotel proved to be ideal for early morning walks before a good breakfast (great menu with a variety of well prepared dishes). The waitress proved to be very helpful and well versed in where to explore in the area. Dinners were well cooked and chosen from a fairly short menu (often a good sign) and had enough variety to choose different dishes each night.
There are comfortable longed adjoining the inspired gin bar to enjoy pre and after dinner tipples.
Beautiful location in the south West
We were so looking forwards to our stay and the location didn't disappoint. It's beautiful.
Sadly, the hotel is a bit tired and is ready for a refurb. The chairs in the restaurant wobble and we had to swap ours twice. The restaurant was freezing and it took away from the enjoyment our meal. The food however was lovely though, although there are very limited veggie options I found one that was very tasty.
The room was spacious but also a bit tired with thread bare carpet in places. We did live the quirkiness of the room with the beans and the old doors.
It didn't take away from our visit to the area, and we had a nice stay all in all.

Very nice hotel with excellent swimming pool. Unfortunately our bathroom had no tail rail. The bath was also very high and I was unable to get in.
