Some improvements needed
Room had a super king bed which was great. Clean. Hotel has nice decor. Food ok. Handy for visiting Bath.
Negatives: no hot water on Saturday night. We complained and the explanation was because the rooms either side of us had used up all the hot water. No Wifi in the separate block we were in from the main hotel building. No dog towels for muddy paws and bellies which we were not advised about this before our trip. No shower gel, just shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer supplied. One of the electric heaters in our room had the control switch incorrectly fitted by an electrician so we had to get the porter to switch it on for us. Apparently a fault that had not been corrected for sometime.

Disappointing
This hotel is full of by gone artefacts and when I say full it's having with old stuff. I expect it would be termed shabby chic but it is definitely more shabby. The lounge was so dark you could hardlysee.
The exterior is shabby too, verging on neglected. There are rotting wagon wheels lying around, the paving is uneven and weedy.
Our room was clean and the bed comfortable. It was behind the kitchen so a little noisy at time.
The food is okay, the menu was the same everyday with no daily specials, which would have added variety. Generally it was well cooked and tasty. However, there were some disappointments, I ordered a side of roasted root veg and when they turned up they were black. Not just around the edges but like charcoal and solid. When I was asked if everything was okay I said that these were I edible and the waitress said "okay" and walked off. A while later the waiter came over and asked why I was complaining, I showed him them and he tried to tell me this is how they came and they were par boiled then roasted. I said again that they were incredible however they were cooked and banged them against the dish to prove my point. He finally said he would take them off the bill, but got no apology. I don't know how any self respecting cool would have sent them out.
We booked here specifically for the fact it had a pool and gym. The first day I went to reception to get towels and the code, however when we got to the pool it was freezing, far to cold to swim in. When I inquired if that was the normal temperature I was told no the boiler had been broken for several weeks and they were waiting for it to be repaired. It would have been nice to been told that when I went to get the towels. We also enquired about where to get the busses into Bath, we were told to go the stop on the wrong side of road and when we asked if this was really correct the receptionist gave us a long story about it going round in a loop to get there. However, he was wrong and if we hadn't checked on line we would have ended up going in the wrong direction.
Overall, we were very disappointed and would not go back there.
The staff were friendly but we felt they needed more training in customer services.
Autumn Break
Lighting in room was awful; impossible to read a book or newspaper. Bath/shower was very narrow making use very difficult indeed.
Little variation in rather limited evening menu; only soup and one main dish changed from one night to next. Very generous portions.
Lovely breakfast including cooked items.
Short break in Bradford on Avon
It is with regret that it is not possible to be more positive with the review.
The room allocated was reasonably clean, however the bathroom was not fit for purpose. The drainage from the bath and sink was almost non existant, water from the sink bubbling up into the bath when the plug from the sink was removed. The shower control was broken and when using the shower the water did not drain out and so you were left standing in water up to you ankles and worse, the water had detritus floating in it regurgitated from the pipe work. This problem was reported to a member of staff on two occasions and it was pointed out there was a health and safety issue. Nothing was done to put this right during our short stay. An alternative room was not offered which would have been acceptable, assuming the plumbing was working in other rooms.
We also experienced no hot water, as did others in the Piggery where we were staying. This issue was resolved eventually.
Some of the restaurant staff unfortunately gave the impression they did not want to be there. That said one of the breakfast staff, a lady, was both very friendly and professional. The food was fine overall but the menu was limited for dinner. Breakfast was fine.
In mitigation we were let off our extras charge.
Two night stay in deluxe room
The food, both breakfast and dinner, were excellent quality. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Two factors let down our stay however, the first being the leisure centre- the pool was absolutely freezing, and no lounge chairs to relax in. Finally our room, in the courtyard, while a good size and very comfortable bed, was slightly shabby with peeling paint in places, and felt damp and musty.
Great location
Unfortunately slow service and cold rooms let it down.
