Not suitable for elderly people. Too many stairs and no lift.

Has potential but needs a lot of work.

Mark H, Kent, stayed: January 2019

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our stay.. we would need to ask for our package champagne reception and this was not forthcoming.
We were staying in a modern wing too the building which had a 3* feel too it all when we thought we were booking a room in the main building!.. we were told that we could not be seated in the restaurant until 8pm only to find just one other couple were seated in the dining room. But the biggest disappointment is the lack of sufficient staff as they all seemed inexperienced school leavers rushing around making lots of mistakes. The hotel seem to lack trained staff, our meals were a disaster as they got them all wrong !!!..while the place has potential to be a very good hotel but not really good enough yet.

'Sorry' was the most used word

RS, Devon, stayed: February 2019

Having booked our 'special' break some weeks in advance, which included a 25 allowance on dinner in the restaurant on the first night, to be told, 'Sorry' there would be no tables available until 8:30pm was not a good start. A meal was made available earlier in a sitting room or bar - but not what we had ordered.
On the second night we got a meal in the restaurant there was another 'sorry' for us - no salt in a salt shaker. But not only for us but 'sorry' was a word which came to the lips of staff when talking to other guests. It became noticeable - not that they shouldn't say it when things were not right, it's just that it appeared that things were not right on a lot of occasions.
Then the wedding parties - no doubt spending inordinately large amounts of money - but resulting in there being no place for other guests to relax. Even when we took ourselves outside - in February - to sit and read, we were approached and asked, politely, to move because they wanted to take photographs. The wedding party the next day was perhaps even more noisy. Even when they had moved on to the evening events room - the music in the bar and sitting room was not adjusted for the quieter atmosphere, even after a gentle request.
So why didn't we go and relax in our room? 1 it was over the bar. 2 It wasn't a suite and though a double, only one easy chair. And while on the room - tea and coffee making equipment in the bottom of the wardrobe; TV in front of the window giving a view of the garden; old but impactable chest of 36 small drawers. Not what I expected when booking.
We enjoyed each other company - had 44 years practice; enjoyed the walk into Stroud along the canal; enjoyed our visit to the Rocco Gardens at Painswick and our visit to the Methodist Church in Stonehouse after checking out on the Sunday.
We admire the staff who were pleasant and helpful - and as apologetic when they needed to be. It can't be easy for them.
Would we stay there again? very unlikely. It is doubtful the establishment would be able to meet the expectation we had for the money paid.

Fantastic Stay.

Anon, stayed: March 2019

We stayed for one night. Our room with it's luxurious bathroom and lovely views overlooking the garden, located in the main house was fantastic. Food in the restaurant was of a very high standard both for dinner and breakfast.we would definitely stay again.

A good choice for a short away break

Very friendly and helpful staff, and hotel and grounds are very attractive. Restaurant food is excellent, though menu might be a bit restrictive for a long stay.
