17th century Manor House hotel

CL, Somerset, stayed: October 2023

Wonderful 17th century Manor House Hotel located not far from M5, has lots of history . Easy to find. Wonderful old building with lovely gardens and old church and Stroud water canal running along the bottom which was great for a morning stroll after breakfast. Can imagine the garden area would be lovely in the summer months.
Deluxe manor room was lovely ,bathroom especially, bed very comfy.
Restaurant was nice, they forgot my fries but rectified with a complimentary drink. Breakfast plenty of choice.
Would love to come back again.

Beautiful hotel by the canal

Anon, stayed: October 2023

We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel itself is very old and they ve done it out beautifully inside. Super clean. The restaurant serves great food. The bar is nice and modern and had a buzzy atmosphere when we were there. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - every single one of them was so incredibly friendly, upbeat and helpful. It s in lovely grounds just by the canal which makes for a lovely walk on your doorstep. Highly recommended.

Another wonderful stay.

Anon, stayed: May 2023

Arriving early we enjoyed a lovely lunch & drink on the terrace. . Our room overlooked the well kept garden and surrounding countryside . The Evening Meal was delicious. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing that let our stay down, was the Breakfast. Hot food was Luke warm. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Overall, very disappointing especially the food! Dinner poor! Breakfast abysmal!!!

Mr & Mrs M Prendergast Cheshire, stayed: April 2023

For this type of hotel, breakfast should have been White Table cloths and waitress service with menu.

The dinner menu was poor as was the bar service I asked for a Campari and soda sorry we don t have any Campari

What a disappointment

We would not visit again.

A lovely stay

Anon, stayed: March 2023

We had an overnight stop here to break a long journey. Next time we go we will make it a destination.
The setting was special and we plan to walk along the canal to explore the area ...
Would definitely recommend.

Delightful historic manor house.

SP, HR4 8QY, stayed: February 2023

We enjoyed our 2 night stay with you. Would be nice to see it in the summer - nicely situated so close to the canal and we enjoyed a lovely walk to Stroud along the canal path. Lovely grounds. Dining room a little chilly but so nice that a fire seemed to burn all day in the lounge area. Food and service of a high standard.

Looks better from the outside

Frank, Surrey, stayed: December 2022

We stayed 6 nights here over the Christmas period including Christmas eve, Christmas day and Boxing day. We were booked into the classic rooms, the floor boards creaked, could hear the people and TV in the next room. The bathroom leaved a lot to be desired, door under sink had to be jammed closed, main door into bathroom would not close unless it was banged shut. Christmas day the hotel was open to non residents for dinner only (supposedly) but a party of 20 non residents stayed on after 5pm and took over the place. They were drunk, brash, ignorant and intimidated the residents and were allowed to get away with it, they even raided the evening time buffet which was laid on for residents as part of our Christmas package.
To be fair, when i complained to management we were offer a room for the last two nights of our stay in the manor part of the hotel which is plush compared to the classic part we were in. It had 4 poster bed, smart TV, very spacious room and a lovely bathroom.
The staff were absolutely brilliant, we have stayed in a lot of places but we have never come across such genuine warm friendly helpful staff, its the staff that make this place.
