Awful food and very basic for the price

WL, West Sussex, stayed: August 2021

For 32 filet steak and triple cooked chips. The chips were rarer than the steak and were completely undercooked. The steak was fibrous and tasteless (I discovered the steaks were frozen and not fresh). Breakfast sausages were low quality and on at least one occasion we were not offered any toast. The Baked Alaska , which should be made with vanilla ice cream, without any warning came with chocolate pistachio and vanilla and resembled something straight out of the freezer from Iceland. There was clearly at least one wasps nest within the outside seating area, making it impossible to enjoy any food or drinks outside.

The only positive was the staff who all seemed to be doing their best I trying circumstances.

Disappointing stay

David, Kent, stayed: September 2021

Hotel is in an excellent location in the charming town of Morton in Marsh. Checked in at 3pm. Male receptionist polite but not particularly welcoming. Room was very clean and warm, albeit a bit tired and dated. Luxurious Molton Brown toiletries but very cheap mouldy single ply toilet paper. Broken seal in shower which was reported first thing in the morning, but was not fixed during 3 night stay.
First night we had cocktails which was included in our package. - it took the barman by surprise but did eventually find a cocktail list and told us in no uncertain terms that it was only the 10 cocktails included in the package. A younger barman appeared and served us two very nice 10 cocktails. We took our seats In the restaurant, ordered a bottle of wine, and the waitress came to take our order. We ordered our starters, but unfortunately when we went to order our main courses, it transpired we had been given the lunch menu. Correct menu was brought to us, and we ordered our main courses from a different waiter who very apologetic. However, our main courses arrived before our starters and were taken away and our starters then served which were excellent. However, my main course was Fish of the Day, and when it arrived for the second time, it had obviously been sitting on a hot plate and had turned to rubber. The manageress was very apologetic and gave us complimentary desserts, coffees, further drinks and didn t charge us for the bottle of wine.
Breakfast on all three mornings was very nice with attentive staff. The night receptionist was very pleasant and engaging, and wished a goodnight and good morning every day.
The ability to park at the front of the hotel was most welcome.
Excellent location to explore the Cotswolds; however did find far better restaurants and bars in the immediate area.

Enjoyable stay

Stephen, West Yorkshire, stayed: November 2021

The type of room booked was unavailable as the key broke in the lock, so we were hosted in a lesser style room. It was still comfortable though. After booking we were notified that there would be a function and some noise may occur. This wasnt a problem, but we were later informed that the restaurant would be closed so we needed to seek alternative arrangements. we did accept a discount on incidentals as a result, but the bill was very complicated and in the end I have no idea what I eventually paid. Suffice to say all this didnt spoil a wonderful break. The staff were excellent throughout and very obliging, helpful, efficient and smiley! Would we stay here again? We would and also recommend it to friends and family

Nice short break

Christopher, Gloucestershire, stayed: November 2021

We had a really nice two night break here.
Room was nice, and I believe that all the rooms are a little different.
The ambience in the restaurant and bar area is very relaxing and the food was excellent.
Our only gripe was that, on arrival, they had no knowledge of our payment, as it was through a third party, and so took some time to resolve. Apart from this we had a very enjoyable and relaxing time.

Dianne

Dianne, Somerset, stayed: February 2022

We had a pleasant stay .The only slight complaint was the breakfast ,I ordered avocado on toast and it arrived on plain bread not sour dough and the avocado was scooped onto the toast ,not mashed with lemon or seasoned so disappointing. Some of the staff seemed new and undertrained. A lovely setting and a tasty dinner.

Very comfortable bed. Radiator in our North facing room seemed undersized during the day. We had a lot of condensation on our windows overnight - though we appreciate that because of Conservation status the windows have to be single glazed.
