Sunday night away

Gary, Gloucestershire, stayed: May 2024

The hotel is in a great location, in the middle of chipping Camden.we were in room 25 at the top of the hotel ,good size room and very clean.
We eat in the restaurant ,food very nice , but portions VERY small for the price, also don t look at the online menu ,they don t use that ,completely different menu which was disappointing.
Breakfast good ,staff not so friendly as the evening staff.

Room not luxury as stated

WS, Shropshire, stayed: February 2024

The best thing about the Cotswold Hotel was the food. We stayed in a supposed luxury room. Well I m not normally picky but room 7 is in need of a total refurb. Windows were rotten with a gap at the bottom showing daylight. The blind in the bathroom was disgusting with a yellow stain all along the bottom of it. The drink area was tatty for want of a better word. Lamp didn t work on the wall by the desk. Batteries needed changing in tv remote. Decor not great with pictures that didn t go with the furniture. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of tea and coffee. Coffee machine would be preferable than a silver tea and coffee pot!! Complimentary robe and slippers was good quality.

Fantastic location and beautiful hotel BUT overly hot, miserable morning staff, no apparent green credentials, sleep disturbed by noisy plumbing issues (reported but not action taken to resolve or offer to change room) slow service in restaurant.

Meeting Friends

Robert H, Caerphilly, stayed: February 2024

It s an interesting hotel that in the past would have been well appointed however it s in need of refurbishment. We were unfortunate to have a room that had an unacceptable smell. The duty manager was quick to act and show us to another room which I believe was a suite. Although this was a large room and a nice gesture it was in need of refurbishing. For a balanced review it s fair to say that our friends had a very nice room although I m not sure it would be what you would expect for a superior room which is what we booked. The restaurant service and food was excellent with freshly cooked breakfast. Car parking is difficult when you arrive and there are limited spaces at rear of the hotel. My wife left her umbrella in our first room and the reception staff were not helpful however the barmen finally retrieved it for us.

Dissapointing

Margaret, Devon, stayed: March 2024

On arrival we were shown to our room, which is very tired. bathroom grotty, large crack in bathroom ceiling, window didn't fit so permanent draft, the heat/aircon made very loud noise, No dressing table. The bed was comfy though.
Staff did not offer to help my husband who was struggling carrying two suitcases and 2 back packs.
short staffed at breakfast and items not replenished. The restuarant food was tasty but very small portions ( even for fine dining ! ) not even a small bread roll. Just very dissapointing.

Good morning, Mrs Devon.

We are really sorry to hear you didn't have a satisfactory stay with us.
We are currently going through a process of rooms refurbishment and apologise your room wasn't up to standard, we are please to hear you find the bed comfortable.

It is a standard procedure for our Front of the House Team to offer help with luggage.
We passed your comments to the Reception Manager and F&B Manager to investigate your complaint further to ensure this will not happen again.

Thank you for your feedback, we take these seriously and continually working on improvements of our services.

Best Regards,
The Reservation Team.

Needs a manager running things

JM, West Midlands, stayed: June 2024

This was a lovely hotel and spa, the reception staff were lovely and friendly but the bar staff were not so helpful and it seems it was not being ran by anyone with authority. Our table in reception had empty glasses on and four members of staff walked past and ignored them while we sat there for at least an hour. We were not told there was a function on when we booked so we were not allowed in the bistro or allowed to order from the bistro menu, instead we ate in the fig restaurant which although very nice was not really value for money, Nobody seemed to know what anyone else was doing and each member of staff had to ask other members of staff questions about everything. Halfway through being served at the bar for drinks a lady (possibly the manager) came over with a tray of drinks and told our bar person to go and give them out leaving my husband standing. As I say, a nice place in a lovely location but could do with a manger

A little tired

Stephen, Warwickshire, stayed: April 2025

The stat itself was very nice , but everywhere you looked everything in the hotel looked a little tired . The bedroom furniture was past its best , the spa was very small and realistically you don t need more than an hour there after your treatment . The gardens are beautiful . Unfortunately the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday nights so you have to go across to their sister hotel for dinner - not quite what we expected . All in all a great shame . Could have been amazing .
