We have stayed at the Noel Arms on many occasions over the past 30 years but thought that we would treat ourselves to the Cotswold House this year. Our junior suite was very disappointing. Complicated lighting systems and heating systems which required the maintainance man to explain. Cold bathroom. Limited restaurant menu and the same on both nights we dined, extremely slow service at breakfast on the Sunday, no doubt due to the wedding party there. We were promised that some compensation would be sent to us in due course but nothing has been forthcoming so far

We say...

Your comments following your stay at Cotswold House have been forwarded to the General Manager to look into.

Firstly the bathroom radiator. He is sorry that this was cold which was due to a faulty valve and has since been replaced. The heating in the bedroom is operated by an on/off switch, then you select the temperature and fan speed. These are the same in every room so he is unsure why there was an issue.  Regarding the food, fine dining cannot change that regularly with the level of food the restaurant serve, however they also have a Bistro as an alternative offering a wide choice plus daily changing specials. He would like to apologise for the breakfast service on the Sunday. They can cope happily with a full house but guests of the wedding party staying at The Noel Arms joined them and they had difficulty coping with the extra customers.

The General Manager will contact you direct in order to resolve the situation and we are sorry to hear that your stay was not to your satisfaction.

Kind regards

A Big Let Down for the money & hype

Pauline L, Dorset, stayed: September 2021

Room on 2nd Floor, adequete, but dated, toilet flush was difficult, poor maintence in shower area etc Evening Meal was good & staff attentive. Breakfast totally different story! Servive was shockling bad, took 1.5hours to finish. Porridge was lumpy & not really edible. We had the toast 30 mins before breakfast came, which had to be pre ordered the night before. It didnt say what it included, but just said how did you like your eggs! it came with Black Pudding & Beans, which most left, it did have bacon & a poor sausage! Our toast was stone cold by this time, we requested more! Fortunately we had stayed the previous two nights at Wych Hill House at Stow, which was cheaper and far better breakfast, evening meal & Service was excellent

Lost its va va Voom

Having stayed at the hotel some ten years earlier I was expecting to arrive and find the same fabulous boutique hotel, however, it has lost its sparkle. The room the food the atmosphere the staff were all shadows of the former hotel. It may be the result of Covid and they are getting themselves back on their feet but my wife and I were disappointed and sad.

Won't be going Back

David C, Warwickshire, stayed: May 2019

A one night stay was for my 60th birthday, i am so gutted for my lovely husband who spent all that money on one night which was a massive disappointment. The lad that greeted us was ok, showed us to our cottage and how to operate the hot tub, unfortunately there was no canopy or gazebo or anything so we couldn't use the hot tub because it was hail stones, there was no way we could sit in it. went to the restaurant where we were challenged on how we liked our steak cooked, because rump was the only steak they had, we asked for well done, he came back and said it would be 20 mins should he bring us some bread, we were brought pitta bread with balsamic/oil and two rolls which were clearly frozen part baked not fresh. The male only staff were all cold, no banter or chat, no one smiled. We were given a complimentary glass of Prosecco, we expected to find two mini bottles in our room, no, we were given a voucher at reception to hand to the bar, how tacky is that.
I think as we are in England it would be nice to have a canopy so if the weather turns bad you can still sit out in it, or offer an alternative maybe in the spa if you cannot use the hot tub, to spend over 400 on one night in a average room is a rip off in this country, we paid for an upgrade we couldn't use, i would also suggest the bottles of prosecco in the rooms not a voucher, and biscuits that are still wrapped, not just four biscuits put in a glass jar.

We say...

Dear David,

Thank you for your review, although we're sorry that you and your husband felt your stay was disappointing.

Cotswold House have advised that both of their hot tubs have canopies above which the staff would have been happy to assist with.

The prosecco included in the offer is a glass each on each day of your stay, and I'm afraid is not provided in bottles in the room, while the biscuits provided on a complimentary basis are baked fresh in the hotel so are not commercially wrapped, but displayed in airtight jars.

With regards to the steak, it is common practice to ask how a customer would like their steak to be cooked; we do apologise if this felt like a challenge.

We do hope that the remainder of your stay was enjoyable.

Best wishes,

Great restaurant, poor hotel

Jeremy B, West Midlands, stayed: February 2017

We had to be moved into a different room prior to our arrival due to weather damage. There were a couple of problems with the new room one being the shower did not work nor did the ceiling lights in the bathroom, reception were informed immediately and again the following morning but nothing was done.

I was so sorry to read your comments, and see that you did not really enjoy your stay much.  I am most surprised you found the staff unfriendly, they are usually very keen to please.

Sorry also that you found the room to be average.

Short break at Cotswold House

Anon, stayed: November 2017

We booked for four nights but left after three. Although the hotel is very pleasant and in an ideal spot the food in the Fig restaurant was grossly overpriced with a very small menu choice which is only changed infrequently. The food was of good quality but small portions and the puddings very boring with not even the option of ice cream or maybe a nice fruit salad. The cheese was good however. We decided we would rather come home than stay another night although we had paid for it.

We say...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Cotswold House. Both we and the Management Team at the hotel are pleased to hear that you found the hotel to be pleasant, but disappointed that you found the food in the Fig Restaurant not to your liking.

As you also dined in the Bistro during your stay, you will have seen that ice cream was available on the Bistro menu, and this would have been happily provided in the Fig restaurant had this been requested - the staff at Cotswold House will always do their very best to accommodate any dietary requirements.

We do hope that you may revisit the hotel in the future.

With best wishes,

Offpeakluxury
