Short break at Cotswold House

Anon, stayed: November 2017

We booked for four nights but left after three. Although the hotel is very pleasant and in an ideal spot the food in the Fig restaurant was grossly overpriced with a very small menu choice which is only changed infrequently. The food was of good quality but small portions and the puddings very boring with not even the option of ice cream or maybe a nice fruit salad. The cheese was good however. We decided we would rather come home than stay another night although we had paid for it.

We say...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Cotswold House. Both we and the Management Team at the hotel are pleased to hear that you found the hotel to be pleasant, but disappointed that you found the food in the Fig Restaurant not to your liking.

As you also dined in the Bistro during your stay, you will have seen that ice cream was available on the Bistro menu, and this would have been happily provided in the Fig restaurant had this been requested - the staff at Cotswold House will always do their very best to accommodate any dietary requirements.

We do hope that you may revisit the hotel in the future.

With best wishes,

Offpeakluxury

A beautiful location, hotel needs lots of improvement.

GO, Hampshire, stayed: June 2016

When we arrived I was very disappointed, we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist but the hotel itself is not luxurious & very dated. We had a superior room overlooking the gardens which the view was very pretty but room & bathroom itself was very dated & tired looking. We went to the spa which was a little walk through the gardens, the staff I thought were not very professional, the changing room was very small as was the pool we used it once as it wasn't anything special. We thought that the hotel had no where to relax before dinner i.e a lounge area, we did find a bistro/bar attached to the hotel which was empty but we did decided to have a cocktail in there before dinner, my husband ordered a Mjoto which I don't think is a complicated cocktail? Anyway they took a long time to make it & when it arrived it wasn't right, so we took it back & told them what was missing, they rectified it no problems. The dinner & breakfast at the hotel was amazing we really enjoyed the food at the hotel & that's what made our experience of the hotel. Our last night at the hotel was also ruined as all night long we heard noise from the room above and called down to reception 3 times but still the noise went on, we didn't need this as we needed our sleep as we have two small children. This was our 10th wedding anniversary and we wanted this to be luxurious & to be made to feel special, I really don't think that we were. It's a real shame that our experience wasn't what we had hoped for but unless the hotel makes lots of improvements then we definitely won't be staying here again.

We say...

Thank you for your review of Cotswold House. The hotel has undergone a series of refurbishment works since your stay on the bedrooms and public areas, so I do hope that should you choose to visit again you would have a more favourable impression of Cotswold House Hotel.

Kind regards,

Bit disappointed Junior Suite was very tired looking.

Claire, Derbyshire, stayed: December 2019

We have stayed at Cotswold House Hotel twice, once about 5 years ago and we really enjoyed it.

This time we booked a Suite, stayed for 2 nights, ate in the bistro on both nights, and had several drinks in the bar.

Food is lovely, really well done and the restaurant is chilled but has atmosphere. Menu is contemporary and plentiful.

Our Suite was disappointing, none of the feature lighting worked in the bathroom, and some of the lighting in the bedroom was also not working. The tea and coffee area was a cupboard that was well past it's best, and was sharp and missing pieces of wood.

There was a huge sofa, which was impossible to sit comfortably on as it was incredibly deep, this would have been easily solved with some cushions.

Toiletries were frankly pitiful for a Suite.

Overall there was nothing even remotely special about the room, which is disappointing as you expect a Suite to be luxurious.

Sadly we would not return.

A two night stay

WB, Hampshire, stayed: April 2016

The location of the hotel is in the centre of Chipping Campden so very easy to walk round town. Parking at the front of the hotel is pay and display in very tight parking slots, beware if in a big vehicle. After unloading went to hotel car park at rear which is fine and near Spa, though quite a trek through to the hotel if you take your luggage that way.
Room was a very good size with a nice ensuite. Floor in the bedroom was very uneven, as expected, in such an old building, all part of the character! A comfortable bed.
Had some drinks in the bar and restaurant and I thought they were somewhat overpriced. I am glad I did not go for anything in the room minibar.
Food in the restaurant was good but the same menu both nights, if you were having the inclusive meal package. I could not believe the price of a bottle of still water that we had with the meal. It will be tap water next time!

The staff were excellent, welcoming and very friendly, which made up for some tired areas of the property.

Honest review

Gail, Somerset, stayed: January 2018

Stayed for one night. Disappointed to find that to get to the spa you have to go out of the hotel and back up the garden to the car park to get to it.  As I was having a shower and had just put the soap on, the shower packed up. My husband called reception who said it was something to do with pressure and I stood waiting for 5 minutes for it to come back on, poor service considering it has recently been refurbished. I thought they may have offered a complimentary drink for the inconvenience but nothing. On check out they tried to charge me twice for an adjustment that had been paid prior to the stay.  It was pleasant but wouldn t go back.  I'm sure in the summer the gardens and village that it is in would be gorgeous.  Hollie who was on reception when we arrived was very pleasant and chatty.

Fabulous room

Rachel, Surrey, stayed: February 2018

The room was absolutely delightful although the tiled bathroom floor was an ice cold ice rink

Breakfast was hilariously bad, I had eggs benedict, the hollandaise was pure vinegar so scraped it off, but most oddly the muffin was totally inedible I was unable to cut through it. We watched a chap at the table next to us attempting to saw through his too. Based on this experience we decided it best to swerve the hotel bar and restaurants
If I stayed again I would swerve breakfast in favour of Huxleys which is a stones throw from the hotel and far superior

Very shabby could do with decorating through out . Stayed in suite outside Hotel building. Very expensive but not with the money. Came back one afternoon to find the handyman relaxing on the sofa talking on his phone. When I complained the receptionist laughed and said that was unbelievable . Not sure that he acted on the situation . Having said that the waiting staff were lovely especially Stefan Would stay again because of Fig restaurant and Location
