Lovely location but expensive and rooms not nice
A fabulous location with fantastic views. The rooms, however, were not very nice. Dark brown ceilings and walls with no mirror to dress by and not a picture or anything on the dark walls. A maze of passageways to get to rooms with no signs to help.
The restaurant service was good but the food pretentious for my liking and lots of add-ons when it came to paying the bill.
Very disappointing stay
Certainly not the luxury experience we were expecting. Our room had a lovely view, but only one chair in which to sit and enjoy it. The kettle was on top of a five foot high cupboard so not user friendly.
The bath was unusually high so I was unable to climb in to use the shower.
There was no television in the room and, when we mentioned this at checkout, the young lady remarked people don t come to the Cotswolds to watch telly! . Not only was this comment completely misguided, but it was also extremely rude and patronising.
The patio seating area at the back of the hotel looked untidy and uncared for with stone slabs lying about and tables left uncleared. And finally, after we d booked, we were notified that the pool had been closed.
I should be grateful if you would send a copy of this review to the hotel as, unusually, they have not asked for a review themselves
Disappointed
Unfortunately although I had an email to say the swimming pool could be out of action there was a lot of building work going on for all our stay . We were told they were refurbishing and our room was already done. It was very dark, the only mirror was in the bathroom there was no instructions for coffee machine or TV and to be fair the receptionist was happy to come and sort those two problems out. The price of drinks were exceptionally high.
Disappointed
Beautiful property which has had the soul ripped from it; interior design at its worst, unsympathetic to the property. Staff had obviously been taught the same script and lacked spontaneity. Overall, the atmosphere was of a corporate business run by accountants. Food was unimaginative with little choice, not very well presented and the restaurant's tub seats were most uncomfortable. Communal areas were rather like John Lewis' furniture department. Net curtains in our bedroom were falling apart. There was no flexibility to change the drinks offer of "fizz" (Prosecco) for a glass of still house wine - "you bought the package, that's what you get". The place needs a client-focused management team experienced in country house hotels.
Disappointed
having stayed at this hotel some years ago, I was disappointed to find that it had been refurbished in a way that was not in keeping with the building, The reception desk was far too high and much of the lounge furniture uncomfortable. The menu was very limited and did not change while I was there (3 nights}. The tea served at breakfast and in the suite was very strange and no ordinary tea was available.
