Disappointed

having stayed at this hotel some years ago, I was disappointed to find that it had been refurbished in a way that was not in keeping with the building, The reception desk was far too high and much of the lounge furniture uncomfortable. The menu was very limited and did not change while I was there (3 nights}. The tea served at breakfast and in the suite was very strange and no ordinary tea was available.

Beautiful property which has had the soul ripped from it; interior design at its worst, unsympathetic to the property. Staff had obviously been taught the same script and lacked spontaneity. Overall, the atmosphere was of a corporate business run by accountants. Food was unimaginative with little choice, not very well presented and the restaurant's tub seats were most uncomfortable. Communal areas were rather like John Lewis' furniture department. Net curtains in our bedroom were falling apart. There was no flexibility to change the drinks offer of "fizz" (Prosecco) for a glass of still house wine - "you bought the package, that's what you get". The place needs a client-focused management team experienced in country house hotels.

Beautiful place. Grounds are amazing, we were able to relax in the sunshine.
Disappointing for us was the bar area. Very small compared to the size if the building.
Drink choices were limited. No drought beer/ lagers and limited bottle choice.
Found other drinks quite expensive.

Weekend Getaway

PJ, Greater London, stayed: September 2023

All in all we enjoyed a two night stay. As per the survey there were elements of the stay that were very enjoyable. Sadly one element wasn t. We booked a deluxe classic double room we had expected a bed suitable for two adults sadly we were allocated a room in the annex part of the house with a small double bed really not suitable. I mentioned the bed upon check out and was told oh yes we will note this and are upgrading the beds? Note the shower is not suitable for larger adults.
Sleeping is vital to relaxing sadly the bed let us down.
Food was excellent but bar had limited choice of beer ambience in the bar was zero.

Short stay.

We were in a room out of the main building. Not enough parking spaces. Our room due refurb in the spring. It definitely needs it. Bed was comfy. No internal phone view of road and barn side. lovely waiting staff. Food was very good, but repetitive menu. And small portions. Breakfast was fantastic. Value for money? In a better room, yes.
But thank you for having us.
