Relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings

Sue Q. Cheshire, stayed: July 2024

Enjoyed our stay in this beautiful building. Very good restaurant. But room was dull with brown furniture and drab decor. Very comfortable bed and pillows though! Bathroom needed an update and had to wait ages for hot water.
Personally, I would like to see some colour around the hotel and perhaps, fresh flowers.

Our 2 day deal included 55 pp for dinner.
BUT our steaks were tough as old boots and poor value for c 35pp.
15 for scallops is OK.BUT for only 2 small scallops ifor me t was mean.

My wife said the swimming pool was nice. BUT the changing room was scruffy. In particular the showers were dirty.
The staff were nice throughout.

Girly break away

Sharon, Wiltshire, stayed: September 2024

6 of us decided to get away and have a girly (old lady really!) break near Chipping Campden as a point of interest. The hotel itself is grand, oldy worldy with Cotswold charm and ambience. The main problem was that we needed twin bedded rooms and that part of the hotel is in serious need of modernisation and refurbishment! Our room was OK but flaking paint, picture missing from wall, very basic and unwelcoming bathroom. My biggest bugbear is that few amenities are provided- you have to ask. There was a hot tub which required staff member to assist taking broken and damaged lid off and on. Apparently both hot tubs and swimming pool are to be removed next year. The restaurant menu, for me, was very limited. Breakfast was excellent. Location stunning!

Recent tasteful refurb and decoration. . Staff very willing but amateurish. Needs a Manager who knows the Hotel Business.

Fabulous house with stunning views

Anon, stayed: October 2024

Unfortunately we both had a stomach bug at the time of our stat - I am certain that it started before we arrived so certainly nothing to do with the hotel. As a result we both found the food to be too rich.
However, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the setting of the hotel quite stunning.
As we were both "under the weather" during our stay, it is impossible to give a proper review.

Cotswold stay

Anon, stayed: November 2024

An impressive building. However, we felt the hotel was quite disorganised. Our room was quite dark and the terrace doors didn't close properly so the room was not secure and we would waken up in the morning with the doors open, not ideal. The food, however, was excellent but overall I would not say it was value for money.

Birthday Celebration Break

Alan, Hampshire, stayed: December 2024

Hotel is in a great location and is very nice to arrive at. Staff on arrival were welcoming and friendly.
Room was OK but bed had a gap down the middle where it wasn't joined together and the TV didn't work due to signal issues. The bathroom was very tired and needed an upgrade. Nice touch to have a Happy Birthday card in the room. Restaurant and food was good but the chairs were impossible to sit easily on. Didn't use the pool but it looked very nice. Good breakfast in the morning. Overall a pleasant stay.

Disappointed

Anon, stayed: March 2025

I have just returned from a recent stay wuth my husband at the Charingworth Manor hotel in the Cotswolds.
I booked this particular hotel as I like to swim daily and it was advertised it as a hotel with a pool.
On arrival we were shown around the hotel and to our room, noting an abundance of workmen vans taking up all of one area of car parking.
I asked where the pool was and was shown the pool entrance door which said it was out of use. The receptionist apologised and indicated this must only just have happened and maybe it would be back in order in the next couple of days, which it clearly would not as it was all but empty.
Further discussions with other staff revealed it was closed the week before our stay due to boiler problems and as it was due to be closed on 1st April anyway there was no point repairing it.
I was deeply disappointed by this, as apparently we're other guests. I noted your site now says the pool will close on 1st April. It did not when we booked.
Our room was opposite a corridor where work was being carried out, which we could hear quite clearly.
Half the hotel is apparently closed for extensive refurbishment, not mentioned at all.
If we had been aware of all this we would definitely not have chosen this hotel for our break.
On the plus side the room was clean, the small amount of staff polite and helpful.
We do, however, feel short changed and misinformed.
