Room Very Tired

VD, ENG, stayed: December 2023

While we appreciated the overall ambiance of your establishment, I regret to inform you that our experience was marred by several issues that I feel compelled to bring to your attention. We paid 915 for a 3-night stay, which included breakfast. However, the room we were allocated, specifically designated for guests with dogs, was substandard in comparison to the rooms occupied by other guests.

Here are some of the issues we encountered during our stay:

Room Condition: The room was scruffy and tired, with noticeable signs of wear and tear. The wood surrounding the patio doors was rotten, leading to a considerable draft. The bathroom blinds had mould, and the toilet flush did not work properly.

Odour: The room had an unpleasant odor, which detracted from the overall comfort of our stay.

Discrepancy in Room Quality: We observed that other guests, who paid less and did not have pets, were assigned far superior rooms. Given that we were informed about the imminent refurbishment and subsequently charged the full rate, we expected a level of accommodation in line with the amount paid.

While the staff and the dining experience were commendable, the overall condition of our room significantly impacted our enjoyment of the stay. I understand that refurbishments are planned, but it seems unfair to charge full price for a room that does not meet the expected standards.

I believe in the potential for your hotel to provide a superior experience, and I hope that my feedback can contribute to the ongoing improvement of your establishment. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution to these concerns.

Charingworth Manor Hotel says...

Thank you so very much for having taken the time to share Mrs Vanora Davies' experience regarding her recent stay with us at Charingworth Manor,  I am, of course, sincerely sorry to read her disappointment.

As she has rightly mentioned we are going through a rejuvenation process and no guest are being affected by this, she has shared that some of our rooms were perceived as tired.

Our Guests rates are managed in a confidential manner, so I am a bit confused how a guest who paid less had a superior room,  we only have 5 dog friendly rooms and there is a supplement for dogs staying with us. Room rates are all the same.

It is always good to receive feedback from our guests, particularly those which highlight areas where we have failed to meet our usual high standards, with which we can continually strive to achieve the consistency expected of us at all times and are fully committed to providing each and every one of our guests with the highest level of service and product that they have every right to expect and it was certainly not our intention to disappoint her in any way.

These shortcomings do not reflect the true spirit of Charingworth Manor and I would like to offer Mrs Vanora Davies my most sincere apologies for the experience  she has had, and I hope we have an opportunity to redeem ourselves to her.

With renewed apologies,

Martin Cometto

Goodbye Charingworth

Anon, stayed: December 2023

We have stayed here a few times over the years but this is the last. Drinks overpriced, food barely adequate, 10% service charge on everything, complimentary bottle of wine only allowed to be drunk in the room. This lovely old hotel seems to now put profit above service and there are far better options in the Cotswolds

Hotel lovely but room not good enough for the amount charged. Bathroom very poor. Window stuck shut & extractor fan not working. Shower poor - hotels if this nature should not be using shower curtains!! Taps on sink were very old & poor standard. TV reception poor.

Staff excellent & restaurant good.

No acknowledgment for my husbands 60th

Jane J, Worcestershire, stayed: February 2024

Booked for my 60th birthday but no acknowledgment. Not even a happy birthday ! We were in Masters Room , room was very hot like a sauna , had to turn down radiators . Room was very noisy all day and all night , found out it was something to do with pool pump.
Dinner food was excellent but had to remind waiter re MSG allergy, All courses on dinner were splendid and a good atmosphere.
Good views from lounge across the Cotswold.
Disappointing stay !!!

Slightly dissapointed as Charingworth Manor could be lovely. The rooms & especially the bathroom were fairly dated & in need of some maintenance. The window was not able to be fully secured which in February is not ideal and the shower head flowed as much from the side as the outlet.
Food was enjoyable but not being able to get a capuccino for breakfast is not ideal, my wife does not enjoy filter coffee, we were told the machine was being breakfast?
The impression was the Manor was short staffed, which was why certain things did not run smoothly, however the staff were as attentive as possible.

A little disappointing

Anon, stayed: March 2024

We were really excited to stay at Charingworth, but unfortunately the overall experience was not so positive. The Rooms were in need of renovation, one of our rooms had a closed view and had limited natural light. The Breakfast was OK, but lacked the variety of fresh and dried fruits that we find in most hotels today. On highlight was the excellent service we had from the waiter in the Dining Room. The site is great.

Lovely views from dinning room

Great location with stunning views from the restaurant
Food was great
Building work was taking place which we were told about beforehand.
Not as luxurious room as I was expecting - room much smaller with just a view of the road
Bathroom light went pop in the middle of night therefore didn t work for rest of night!
