Enjoyable, but

MB, Essex, stayed: February 2022

We had a very nice stay at the hotel, the room was very comfortable, well decorated and maintained to high standard. The shower was one of the most powerful we have ever come across. The staff were very nice and always helpful not to sure about the saddles at the bar though. We ate at the hotel for two of the three nights and the food was of a high standard. If you don't mind a 20 minute walk it's ideally located for the town. But most of it is through alleyways. The only downside was being charged to park our car, I've stayed at numerous hotels of varying standards over the years and have never been charged as a resident. I'm sure its in the small print and perhaps all the hotels in the area do it but after spending well over 500 at the hotel to be charged a further 15 for 3 nights stay left a sour taste.

Burnside Hotel. Near Stratford

SM, Stirlingshire, stayed: October 2021

Our main complaint about The Burnside is that the room we received bore no relation to the picture provided for that category of room, being much smaller.
We had expected a seating are with 2 comfortable chairs, not one. Indeed, I had discussed this with the agent when booking and paid extra for this comfort.
We had to pay 15 for parking. Surely unnecessary in a rural hotel.
75 was charged to my credit card on arrival and has not been refunded.
On a positive note, the staff were lovely, especially Ahmed and Aminta.
The manager failed to discuss the issue of the room with us despite being alerted by Ahmed.
The food was very enjoyable.
I would be pleased to hear your reaction to these issues

Burnside Hotel says...

Thank you for your review.

With regards to the £75 you have telephoned us and your pre-authorisation issue has been resolved.

The room given to you was indeed an Executive King room.  Our hotel is a conversion and as such, no two rooms are alike as all rooms are configured differently. Therefore, sample pictures of our room types will often be slightly different to actual rooms given as it is not possible to have photos of all 24 rooms on the website. However, each room type is comparable with all other room types of a similar grade. E.g. all Executive King rooms have King size beds etc.

Kind regards,

Burnside Hotel

A gem !!!

Justin, GREATER MANCHESTER, stayed: October 2021

After reading a lady s previous review on this hotel, I still decided to stay for 2 nights, best decision ever, I don t know how this lady came to her decision to review this hotel so badly.
On entering the car park it was clean and lots of spaces, although more security cameras than a super max prison, which is only a good thing.
On booking in this was quick and pleasant experience, the gentleman who booked me in was well dressed and polite, the room was world class, spotless, warm, a joy to behold.
Evening meal was delicious, the only let down was the two breakfasts we had , I still gave the food a good.
The bar was well stocked, hotel prices ( but hey ho).
It is a 15 minute walk from Stratford town centre.
Our room was located facing the car park( I didn t hear a single sound in the room for the two nights)
The bathroom was excellent with very arty fixtures and fittings, the room was spacious.
The waiting staff where pleasant and professional.
I would stay again.

An Immaculate hotel.

MT, Derbyshire, stayed: December 2019

We were very happy with our choice. The hotel had been recently refurbished to an excellent standard and it's location within easy reach of Stratford was ideal. However it lacked a comfortable lounge area which for a winter break would have been appreciated.
It's clean modern lines proved to be somewhat sterile.
Breakfast and dinner were both excellent.

Wedding anniversary

We enjoyed the stay and the room was excellent. However it felt like a family hotel which is great but we didn t feel that looked after. The bar is very small especially with COVID rules.

Generally good - breakfast disappointing

Room was nice and clean. Enjoyed our evening meal but the full English breakfast was disappointing. The wife and I didn't eat it.

We had a two night gift stay, with B&B included, a 50 contribution towards one meal in the hotel, and a (limited choice) welcome drink.

Although in a great location to access Stratford Upon Avon on foot, the hotel is on a fairly busy road, with limited parking immediately to the rear, this area being backed by tall, dense trees - not the woodland imagined from the online details.

Upon arriving at the hotel our reception was polite, professional and friendly .
We had an executive room, which was on the ground floor, which although very nicely appointed, had guests cars parked immediately outside the window .
We asked about a possible change of room, as we were aware the hotel was not full, and were given the option of two upstairs executive rooms, facing onto the road. We chose to decline these for fear of traffic noise and retained the ground floor room at the rear. Consequently we spent much of the time in a darkened room due to having to draw the curtains against potential views from the car park.

Early evening on both of the two nights we stayed we had to request the central heating was turned on as the room was very cold. Staff responded to this promptly, and immediately rectified the situation.
We were informed it was turned off because of the time of year , but early April seems rather early for heating to be switched off, unless experiencing very high temperatures.
(Noted, there was an option to turn the air conditioning on high for some warm air, but initially that was not very effective.)

We ate our evening meal on the first night in the hotel alone - the food was ok, the music piped and the ambiance non-existent.
There is a bar in the hotel but the limited number of staff seem to split their time working in the main building and in the on-site pub . The pub is a bland indoor area across the car park, serving Asian / pub food, with a huge sports tv , plus it has a small outdoor patio area facing the trees.
Again, there was a lack of atmosphere in either.

Breakfast was fine, but lacking. The coffee was weak and warm and the food adequate.

Nothing was so bad we felt the need to complain, apart from to ask about changing the room, and then the temperature , but the hotel, sadly, did not meet our expectations and we felt the 450 price tag was rather high for what was provided.
To us it felt more suited to a business/corporate client, rather than a luxury country break.

On a positive note, the whole hotel was clean and nicely furnished, and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Lovely hotel let down by its kitchen

JM, Hertfordshire, stayed: September 2024

The hotel is very comfortable and in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the food is average, which marrs an otherwise excellent hotel.
