Lovely hotel let down by its kitchen

JM, Hertfordshire, stayed: September 2024

The hotel is very comfortable and in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the food is average, which marrs an otherwise excellent hotel.

We had a two night gift stay, with B&B included, a 50 contribution towards one meal in the hotel, and a (limited choice) welcome drink.

Although in a great location to access Stratford Upon Avon on foot, the hotel is on a fairly busy road, with limited parking immediately to the rear, this area being backed by tall, dense trees - not the woodland imagined from the online details.

Upon arriving at the hotel our reception was polite, professional and friendly .
We had an executive room, which was on the ground floor, which although very nicely appointed, had guests cars parked immediately outside the window .
We asked about a possible change of room, as we were aware the hotel was not full, and were given the option of two upstairs executive rooms, facing onto the road. We chose to decline these for fear of traffic noise and retained the ground floor room at the rear. Consequently we spent much of the time in a darkened room due to having to draw the curtains against potential views from the car park.

Early evening on both of the two nights we stayed we had to request the central heating was turned on as the room was very cold. Staff responded to this promptly, and immediately rectified the situation.
We were informed it was turned off because of the time of year , but early April seems rather early for heating to be switched off, unless experiencing very high temperatures.
(Noted, there was an option to turn the air conditioning on high for some warm air, but initially that was not very effective.)

We ate our evening meal on the first night in the hotel alone - the food was ok, the music piped and the ambiance non-existent.
There is a bar in the hotel but the limited number of staff seem to split their time working in the main building and in the on-site pub . The pub is a bland indoor area across the car park, serving Asian / pub food, with a huge sports tv , plus it has a small outdoor patio area facing the trees.
Again, there was a lack of atmosphere in either.

Breakfast was fine, but lacking. The coffee was weak and warm and the food adequate.

Nothing was so bad we felt the need to complain, apart from to ask about changing the room, and then the temperature , but the hotel, sadly, did not meet our expectations and we felt the 450 price tag was rather high for what was provided.
To us it felt more suited to a business/corporate client, rather than a luxury country break.

On a positive note, the whole hotel was clean and nicely furnished, and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Wet trip to Stratford on Avon

Neat and clean rooms with a good value restaurant
With heavy rain the lounge and bar area could have been larger with better seating arrangements

Spring break

EO, North Yorkshire, stayed: March 2022

My husband and I enjoyed 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast at the Burnside Hotel. We stayed in an Executive King Room which was very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Breakfast was cooked to order and there was plenty of choice. We didn't mind the walk into Stratford and Anne Hathaway's cottage is close by.
What made our stay memorable were the members of staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and helpful. A real asset to the hotel.

Breakfast value for money

Anon, stayed: May 2022

The hotel and staff were excellent.
The only down side was the breakfast what you got for the cost in my opinion was not value for money the food is cooked perfect but very little quantity. I asked for the full breakfast but asked for 3 items to be left off so when it arrived there was 1 sausage, 1 slice of bacon, mushrooms and beans i do not think this is value for 15.99 per head also you had to choose between having cerals/continental or cooked breakfast.
The rooms are of a very high standard.

Great rooms and location.

Anon, stayed: September 2021

The hotel was clean. Staff were friendly. Room was large with tasteful d cor.
Only criticism was being unexpectedly charged 10 per night to park car in hotel carpark.
We were told that this was because they had "kept our car safe overnight".
