About the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled regions in England, with high, wooded hills and sweeping valleys dotted with charming, timeless villages of honey-coloured stone cottages.
Tewkesbury is a small Gloucestershire market town that lies to the north of Cheltenham and Gloucester in the Severn Vale, where the Rivers Severn and Avon meet.
This historic town has a stunning 12th century Abbey as the focal point of the town. The Abbey is thought to be one of the largest parish churches in England, larger than many Cathedrals, and the highest Norman tower in the country. Visitors can enjoy the rich arhictectural heritage, including a 17th century Milton organ and delicately carved tombs. The Abbey Shop has a selection of gifts and souvenirs and The Refectory serves lunch and afternoon tea.
Other attractions include the Tewkesbury Museum and nearby John Moore Countryside Museum.
Events: Tewkesbury Medieval Festival (July) – Where the town lives out a re-enactment of the famous Battle of Tewkesbury of 1471, the largest event of its kind in Europe. (July 8th-9th 2006)
