Really nice hotel, the service at the restaurant was very slow and little attention paid to my group of 10.
It took 90 mins to get our starter and we had to go to the bar to get drinks.
Apart from that it was a lovely stay
Like Fawlty Towers
My husband booked this as a surprise weekend stay for my 30th birthday for two nights.
When we arrived the receptionist informed us that we had been upgraded which we were really excited about. However the room was appalling. Peeling wall paper, worn away carpets, damp / mould patches all over the walls. We had the heating on all weekend yet the room was absolutely freezing, this was due to the windows being in a serious state of disrepair. The TV had about 4 channels and the decoration looked like it hadn t been upgraded for 50+ years.
Dinner was even worse. I ordered a Diet Coke which was completely flat, not one single bubble. The bar tender kindly poured me a new one. When going through to dinner I ordered another, exactly the same happened, completely flat.
Our waitress informed us that our dinner was included, 3 courses from the menu provided. I ordered the wild truffle mushroom tagliatelle. It was awful, completely dry. Just plain, dry pasta with some mushrooms on the side, no sauce at all. Because there was no sauce, all the pasta stuck together making it completely inedible. I explained this to the waitress who kindly offered us free drinks vouchers.
Breakfast the next day wasn t much better. I asked for some soya milk with my tea which the waitress kindly brought. It looked a little strange so I tasted it, it was so gone off it was actually thick.
Finally our spa treatment. In advance I had booked a facial and neck, back and shoulder massage. I had informed the spa in advance that I was pregnant and they had confirmed this. We were told to be there 15 minutes before, which we duly did. I was told they were running slightly late which wasn t a problem. After waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time and multiple people going in before me with later appointment times, I queried whether I had been forgotten. Eventually I was taken through. Immediately the masseuse informed me she was unable to perform pregnancy massages. Another 10 minutes past where they sorted this out and they finally found someone to help. This meant we only had less than 1/2 an hour to enjoy the pool / spa as we had made dinner reservations.
The weekend was a catalogue of disasters. Reminding us of Fawlty Towers. This was a 30th birthday surprise celebration, which we paid a lot of money for. I did not expect this from a 4* hotel.
Ok but not great
Hotel room and hotel tired, room had dirty wallpaper and carpets, wind blows through windows. Restaurant food just ok. Breakfast ok too, but had to ask for coffee, orange juice ran out, overall the hotel either needs lots of money spending on it or to close! We will not return until upgrade, we paid lots of money for an ok experience. I want to say it wasnt totally bad but not value for money!
Beautiful hotel and gardens
Hotel in stunning grounds. Brilliant staff.
Entrance to a bit or working out to find. Room needs maintenance, curtains didn't close fully. Couch collapsing in one side. Marks on chair, light shade, wallpaper coming off, looked generally tired. Resturant and staff were great. Food for vegan and vegetarian Limited. Risotto was not made with Risotto rice and only 2 asparagus tips in and was more just rice and peas in a bowl, no stock just tasted like glue water which was a shame. Breakfast was great.
Spa had a few parts under maintenance. Not enough to spend hours too enjoy as few things closed or over crowded.
