Joy near Stratford

A magnificent period building in a lovely setting which hasn't been spoilt yet by the contemporary designers getting their hands on the interior. Please don't let anyone erase the history of the building.

Lovely stay

Saskia, Cambridgeshire, stayed: May 2025

The staff on the desk were so helpful and welcoming. We had an amazing dinner and breakfast was a buffet which was fantastic! and the scenery was just beautiful. We had a stunning view while having dinner and breakfast. The spa had loads of facilities to use and staff were really lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel. The only slightly negative comments would be that the rooms could do with a slight update, but the food, facilities and friendly staff massively make up for this!

Thank you so much for a much needed getaway! Felt completely refreshed. We ll recommend to friends and definitely be back ourselves.

Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club Stratford on Avon

The housekeeping standards in this hotel are abysmal.
The initial room had a stench to it which turned out to be heavily soiled mattresses and the shower cubicle was filthy and the tiling heavily stained with mould. The carpets were soiled and in places were wearing through. The second room offered was of a similar condition with the mattress staining including blood staining. The communal area carpets in places were threadbare and posed trip hazards.
This hotel masquerades as a 4 star hotel but its standards fell short of those expected from budget hotels/hostels. The hotel staff seemed indifferent to our complaint and not concerned when we cancelled our booking and had to find an alternative hotel in the area at short notice.
Having stayed in this hotel previously to say we were disappointed is an understatement and we certainly wouldn't recommend it to any one considering staying there.

Absolute shambles

CB, Gloucestershire, stayed: May 2025

Not a great stay at all . I paid for the stay upfront. On arrival the receptionist asked if I want to leave my banks details just in case I wanted to charge anything to the room . I said yes so the receptionist took my card and was meant to take a pre authorisation but instead charged me the full amount of my stay again . She asked me if I had been charged which I said yes and showed her my bank account to show her that is had been taken off my balance . At the time I was like it s ok mistakes happen . After a few minutes the receptionist refunded my card which can take up to 10 days to go back on . Myself and my wife went to our room which quite frankly wasn t the best . The grout in the bathroom was stain like an orange colour and the bath looked grim . There was damage to the wall and overall it wasn t that nice . But we decided to make the most of it . We went and had a drink at the bar . One of the bar people had no idea what he was doing . There was a major issue with there system as it kept crashing . We just saw the funny side of it . After a few drinks in the garden we went and had dinner . We were greeted and sat down . The lady asked if we wanted a wine menu which we said yes please . After a few minutes we ordered food the selection wasn t great . There was no upselling or anything . A lot of people rushing around due to a wedding being on . The one issue we had was the main course was covered in a gravy not in a seperate boat or anything . The food was ok not the best . After dinner we went to the bar and had a couple more drinks . The next morning we went to have breakfast and it was not pleasant at all the buffet hot food was gross . I was happy to leave the hotel . When we checked out I asked the receptionist how long it would take for the money to go back into my card . He replied he could be up to 10 days. I was asked to show proof of the refund which I showed him the receipt the lady gave me . He said I h yes I can see that 269 was taken by mistake the lady is new . I said as long as it goes back on no problem . We then left the hotel . A few hours later I had a notification from my bank saying the hotel took another 269 out of my bank . I immediately called them to see what the hell was going on . They tried to tell me that as they never took the money in the first place they had to charge me again as the lady shouldn t have refunded me . I explained that the money had come out of my account and I could show them . I had to send the hotel screen shots of my bank statement to prove that the money had come out . I contacted my bank and got the one transaction reversed but I m still waiting for the other one to clear . Overall I am absolutely appalled in the way the whole situation has been handled with

Relaxing break

MD, Worcestershire, stayed: May 2025

We stayed here for one night as a birthday celebration. Two of us upgraded our room to a four poster room. My two sisters shared a basic twin, they did comment that the room was old and dated. On the contrary- the four poster room was absolutely lovely.

Dinner was very good, food was tasty and lovely and hot. Breakfast was good and there was lots of variety. All of the staff were very friendly.

We enjoyed the SPA, it was very relaxing. We would definitely return again. It was really enjoyable.
