Mid-week deal

We had a very enjoyable stay for a double celebration. Deal included a welcome drink which we followed with a cream tea. We ate in both nights and enjoyed our breakfasts. Worthwhile taking a five minute stroll to buy ice creams. Bedrooms were in keeping with the age of the hotel - comfortable but not ultra modern. Shower over bath not the easiest to get into and no grab bars for those who last stayed at the hotel fifty years ago! Glad to see the bear still there.

Reception was good. The room had a badly fitted to the wall bedside lamp which was almost dangling and the other had the wrong bulb in it.
The staff in the restaurant didn t listen to the requests fully and appeared with bits of the order wrong or missing. It s a shame as it s so important and costs nothing.

A 5 night stay at The Bear

First of all the good points. The staff, breakfasts, beer garden and ample parking were all excellent points.
Now for the only negative, the rooms are possibly okay for a short stay but I found that the lack of space in the room as well as general storage was not good.
It's an old building and they're limited with the alterations they can make.
My booking said GOOD DOUBLE, but after speaking to reception this is the lowest( entry level) room the hotel offers. Don't get me wrong I did sneak a peek into a nearby room with a 4 poster bed which looked fab but don't expect this when you book a good double.

Our 3 Night Break Was Very Enjoyable

A wonderful view from our country house room, very attentive staff and great food. Just let down a little bit by smokers lighting up in no smoking areas and barking dogs.
Overall a very pleasant stay.

Pleasant Weekend Break

Nice place to stay for a couple of days and great walks nearby.

If staying for couple of nights then menu can be limited and so may only wish to dine for one evening.

Service is great and super friendly throughout our stay.
