Relaxing stay in great surroundings

Sal&Troy London, stayed: June 2015

A lovely relaxing 3 night stay, booked via OPL. Food was delightful, a great choice at breakfast and 3 course dinner each night in the restaurant. My partner would have liked the option of one of their hearty bar meals but this was not part of the offer. Well worth indulging in the generous "Full Bear" afternoon tea, yummy. All the staff we met were friendly and helped make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. There was a small wedding on the Friday and although I was a little anxious about how it would affect our stay i needn't have worried. We had an room upgrade in the annexe and the Hotel had enough rooms to accommodate wedding, hotel guests and locals. Fab location too you can leave the hotel and just wander across the commons, lots of pretty villages nearby and great scenery. Don't forget to visit bin ends, before you leave we bought a reasonably priced Prosecco and Rose both very enjoyable. The only small niggle we had was with the wifi which wasn't great.

We say...

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay at The Bear of Rodborough, including the standard of food and good service. It sounds like the 'Full Bear' afternoon tea was a real treat.

The dining allowance included in the package can be used towards the bar menu if you wish.  Occasionally, due to the rural location of the hotel, the strength of the wi-fi signal can vary however this is also available in the lounge and bar.  The hotel do hope to welcome you back soon.

Kind regards

Relaxing retreat

Anon, stayed: July 2015

We booked a Friday to Sunday stay. Whilst our stay was booked through a deal we were not informed that there was a wedding at the venue until 10 days before we arrived only because our dinner on the Saturday night could not be in the restaurant. When we arrived on the Friday there was a wedding that day too. Whilst the hotel were very good at giving us a room away from wedding guests (of both weddings!!) it did feel like we were the odd ones out every evening when relaxing in the bar and we were gate crashing the pre/post wedding celebrations.
The hotel itself has the usual Cotswold charm, lovely room with big bed. Bar food delicious! Would come back maybe not during a double wedding!!

Lazy Romantic Break

Kate, Fareham, stayed: August 2015

The bedroom was small, no upgrade available because there was a wedding. Restaurant menu very limited if you don't like fish. Same menu the following night.
Service in the restaurant very variable. Manager in the restaurant didn't really engage with her customers and would not apologise for forgetting to take order.
No bath tub in the en suite.
A pleasant weekend but would think twice about booking there again

Disappointed

Susan C, Cornwall, stayed: August 2015

Having stayed several times, we feel this hotel has gone down hill. The staff were mainly helpful and friendly but not enough of them to keep bar area clean, tables not being cleared quickly or tables not being wiped down. Ate in restaurant first night in package deal disappointed, meals very pretty but minute and unfortunately no flavour, we choose different things but definitely lacked taste. Asked if we could change package following night to eat in the bar, receptionist very helpful and said would be no problem. Unfortunately not much better, starter fine asked to have a 10 min break between courses they said would be fine but was about 30 mins which we didn't mind but when steaks arrived seemed to have been kept warm and only tepid, ate them as we were hungry. Did mention it to the waiter who was apologetic and said we should have said sooner. This experience has put us off returning.

Ruby wedding break

Manchester couple., stayed: August 2015

We booked a two night stay to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful and even gave us a card and chocolates on the day. My only criticism was as a vegetarian there was not much choice on the evening menu.

Very enjoyable

FS, Monmouthshire, stayed: September 2015

This is the second time I have stayed at The Bear of Rodborough. I have enjoyed both visits. The hotel decor is sympathetic to the building, the staff were friendly, the restaurant food very good. It is ideally placed for visiting local surroundings and walking. I would recommend it and would definitely stay here again.

Birthday treat

JS, Northants, stayed: September 2015

Arrived to a very warm welcome. Lovely room with great views. Loved the extra's, champagne and chocolates made it so special, enjoyed afternoon tea in the garden. Lovely meal in the evening, very nice bar, brilliant breakfast, nothing to dislike! would love to stay again.
