Lovely stay
We stayed at The Bear for 1 night in March 2015. It is a lovely hotel and the food was great. We only ate in the main restaurant but the food in the bar looked really good too. Our room was fab, luckily we don't like baths though as only a shower in the bathroom! Would go back.
Nice place .....but
Just about ok for the money.
Bathroom could do with a deep clean , thick dust on raised parts of tiles, corners of floor dusty,
Drinks are overly expensive,eg 7 for a medium house red.
Cotswold mid-week break.
Very welcoming staff, especially reception. Food very good, exceptional Breakfast, would recommend. Log fires a real bonus in the bar, very cosy..!! Would definitely return.
THREE NIGHTS AT THE BEAR
A nice relaxing hotel with friendly helpful staff. A good restaurant with not only fresh produce, but also FRESH WHITE TABLE LINEN which is becoming a rarity in Bistro Style Britain. I understand that this is to change at this hotel, which will be a pity ! All too often one finds oneself eating off of sticky wooden tables in 4 star hotels.
Our room was adequate, clean and comfortable. The Bar was welcoming and appeared to be well patronised by the locals. All things considered a very enjoyable stay. !
would I return? I would be more so inclined if the formal style dining is retained.
A lovely warm welcome awaits.
We stayed for just one night but sampled afternoon tea evening meal and breakfast. All were very good although we have had better afternoon tea. The staff were brilliant nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome.
good value for money
Last minute decision to go away for the night and picked this place and was recommended also beautiful room master sweet second to none only wish bathroom was next to bedroom food amazing and afternoon tea in courtyatd was fab cany wait to go again
Shame the croquet lawn is going due to an extension
Relaxing retreat
We booked a Friday to Sunday stay. Whilst our stay was booked through a deal we were not informed that there was a wedding at the venue until 10 days before we arrived only because our dinner on the Saturday night could not be in the restaurant. When we arrived on the Friday there was a wedding that day too. Whilst the hotel were very good at giving us a room away from wedding guests (of both weddings!!) it did feel like we were the odd ones out every evening when relaxing in the bar and we were gate crashing the pre/post wedding celebrations.
The hotel itself has the usual Cotswold charm, lovely room with big bed. Bar food delicious! Would come back maybe not during a double wedding!!
Nothing special
Booked the deal that included dinner, cream tea, prosecco etc but was not offered any of the extras apart from dinner.
Dinner was not great, so wish now that I had booked just a room or even a different hotel.
Just because you use good expensive ingredients doesn't mean that the food is well prepared. Why ask how you want the beef fillet when you serve it completely dry and overbooked anyway? For £250 for 2 nights, you can get something much better in a better location.
This place has the potential to be nice and welcoming, but its just not.
Everything could be improved here from service, food, decor.
