Nice night away

Myself and my wife had a nice stay at the Bear, we would definitely be using off peak luxury again, we would also stay at the Bear in future.

Charming Country hotel

Myself, husband and our 2 year old daughter stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time. The hotel was a classic country hotel, decorated in country chic design. we stayed in a country house room which was a little smaller than expected but such a lovely room, well decorated with big soft towels and bathrobes. Super clean & I m fussy with cleanliness! The tea pig tea bags and luxury flavoured coffee bags paired with chocolates were extra special! The room was really cold but then we realised the radiator was off so we turned it in it was lovely and cosy. It had a beautiful view.
The reception staff were very helpful & friendly. The restaurant was excellent, we dined both evenings because the food was so good! The choux desert was to die for I had it both nights! The breakfast was fantastic with a buffet for delicious pastries and fresh fruit plus granola yoghurt glasses which were amazing. Then a lovely choice of cooked breakfasts. Our only negative would be that The evening restaurant waitresses could have been a little bit more helpful & friendly. Overall we had a fantastic stay at the bear, we don t understand how it s only a 3 star as we would rate this as a 4 star at least! It was such great value for money too. Thank you!

Not great value or real luxury

Booked one of the better rooms at this hotel and pretty disappointed it was tiny, just enough space for the bed and two chairs. Staff were ok but not adept at dealing with pushy customers (of which there were many) who didn't bother to join the queue leaving others like me waiting a long time- this happened several times, at check-in, at the bar, at the restaurant, and its just rude to ignore customers who are waiting, so I wasn't very happy with that.
The place is ok, it just doesn't deliver a luxury experience, its just like a pub with small rooms... Not very impressed for the price, I've stayed in better places for the same money.

Overnight Stay

We enjoyed the hotel and thought it had a lovely relaxed weather was poor so we made the most of the open fires. My only negative feedback was the dinner menu was a bit limited and three of the bottles of wine we asked for were not available, however the food we had was lovely. We were particularly impressed with breakfast and the choice available.
