Cotswold getaway with sensational food
We stayed for a few days at The Bear ten years ago after our wedding and have been back twice now since. It has always been a good place to relax with lovely countryside views, friendly staff and within easy striking distance of Gloucester for shopping. The food has always been good but this last time we stayed we found the chef had changed and the cooking in the restaurant is now absolutely fabulous. The nearest to a bad thing we could possibly find to say is that if you like a soft mattress you might find the bed a bit hard. We shall certainly go again.
Overnight stay at the Bear at Rodborough Sunday 24 April
We have stayed at this hotel previously and returned because we liked it so much. The public rooms were comfortable and well presented, our bedroom was clean, tidy and well appointed. The best bit of our stay was the meal we ate in the restaurant in the evening. We are regular visitors to a 2 star Michelin restaurant near our home and the meal we were served at the Bear was just as good. The menu offered an excellent range and the food at all 3 courses was simply delicious. The presentation was beautiful and the flavour combinations were amazing. We cannot wait to return again.
The Bear of Rodborough Hotel - Not worth the money
Having paid extra for an upgraded room we were very disappointed with the first room we were given and the second was not much better, with holes in the duvet cover which is something you don't expect these days. Having stayed in many OPL recommended hotels, we expected better and would not recommend this one. There are much better places to stay for a similar or lower cost. The restaurant was quite poor with very limited choice and not very good quality. The wine was very expensive for what was on offer. Breakfast was not much better, in fact it was worse. Overall it was not worth the money and we would definitely not recommend this hotel.

Great Hotel :)
This was a present from our daughter, my husband and I had a wonderful time, the food was excellent, and would certainly stay there again.
Great hotel Great location
We had a Valentines package which was well worth the price.
Wonderful stay
Room upgrade to four poster, staff welcoming, evening meal & breakfast superb. Wonderful Cotswold stone building in excellent location. We will return.
Nothing special
Booked the deal that included dinner, cream tea, prosecco etc but was not offered any of the extras apart from dinner.
Dinner was not great, so wish now that I had booked just a room or even a different hotel.
Just because you use good expensive ingredients doesn't mean that the food is well prepared. Why ask how you want the beef fillet when you serve it completely dry and overbooked anyway? For £250 for 2 nights, you can get something much better in a better location.
This place has the potential to be nice and welcoming, but its just not.
Everything could be improved here from service, food, decor.
