Fabulous location, wonderful welcome
Really enjoyed our stay. The staff were all incredibly welcoming and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The location is stunning and the reception, hotel bar and dining areas all wonderfully appointed. Will definitely return.
Nice few days away
Hotel looks really nice, room was good size good shower, the main problem was the restaurant service and the food choice restaurant is basic and not inviting several things on the menu not available just a pub quality meal I was expecting a lot better. Breakfast was very good
I probably would stay again but wouldn t eat there

Very pleasant stay
This hotel is very comfortable and has a nice ambience. It has an really nice outside seating/eating area and bar when there is good weather and a pleasant light restaurant indoors. The food was nicely presented. All the staff were very pleasant and obliging. The room had a nice double aspect, very clean and was a good size. I would recommend it to friends and return again myself.
A 5 night stay at The Bear
First of all the good points. The staff, breakfasts, beer garden and ample parking were all excellent points.
Now for the only negative, the rooms are possibly okay for a short stay but I found that the lack of space in the room as well as general storage was not good.
It's an old building and they're limited with the alterations they can make.
My booking said GOOD DOUBLE, but after speaking to reception this is the lowest( entry level) room the hotel offers. Don't get me wrong I did sneak a peek into a nearby room with a 4 poster bed which looked fab but don't expect this when you book a good double.

Summer Short break
Lovely time, great food and outside spaces. Nice rooms in the main house, although a little hot in the summer with noisy road with open windows.

We were extremely disappointed with the room, particularly as we were staying for five nights. For our room to be described as a good double was frankly dishonest - you could barely squeeze past one corner of the bed as it was so close to the wardrobe. When we questioned this with the hotel reception it was very apparent that they were aware of this, but we were told that the hotel was fully booked and they were unable to move us.
We also had a very bad experience on the first night in terms of service, waiting for 3/4 hour for a drink and over 2 hours for our meal, which when it came was awful. We understood that this was due to last minute staff shortages, and in fairness we couldn t fault the level of service and meals for the rest of our stay.
