3 night stay

LB, West Sussex, stayed: July 2021

Great location with lovely views, able to walk into Tewksbury in 15 minutes.
The restaurant service was not great but I believe there was a lot of new staff getting to know the ropes. Reception service on arrival very welcoming and experienced on departure again I think new staff not much customer service.

Overall an enjoyable short stay

Spoilt by the detail

David, Devon, stayed: May 2022

Delightful setting and friendly welcome. Our room was firstclass.
when we went to the restuarant they didnt have a single drink with zero sugar! For a diabetic this meant water!
When ordering a meal a request was made by the diabetic to change the mash potatoe for a plain potatoe to be told she would need to place a side order. Fortunately another member of staff overheard the problem and sorted it with the chef.

Hotel with so much potential

Elaine R, stayed: May 2022

Stayed here before but sadly I have to say it has gone downhill, especially in terms of customer services.
After checking in we visited the spa. We had been told at reception that towels would be provided at the Spa. On arrival at the Spa there was no staff about. After 10 minutes, I went behind the reception desk and contacted reception. They said someone would be with us. After another 5 minutes a member of staff appeared. She informed us that they hadn t received any clean towels today and none were available, she said we could use the ones from our room. We weren t happy as we were wanting to shower when we got back to our room. She then said we should go to the hotel reception (in a separate building) and ask for towels.
In he restaurant in the evening we were met by very young inexperienced staff. We ordered our meal and also a bottle of wine. Our starters arrived after 10 minutes but no wine. After finishing our starters we asked about the wine. No apology but it was eventually plonked on out table, unopened!!!
We the waited another 40 minutes for our main meal to arrive.
I know thes comments are very negative but the food (when it arrived)was of a really good quality and we really enjoyed it.
The breakfast was good and there were more members of more experienced staff serving.
I feel strongly that staff training is urgently required for the young members of the restaurant staff who were left to serve both in the restaurant and bar in the evening

Spa break no Spa!?

Christine R, West Midlands, stayed: May 2022

My sister and myself were one of the unfortunate many, whose foreign holiday was cancelled and were desperate for an alternative break.
Whilst we were delighted to have found Tewkesbury Park Hotel Spa break, for the chance to unwind, relax and be pampered. We were left disappointed to discover that there were no Spa treatments available. There were no staff to provide them.
The reception staff at booking out time, from the hotel said hat they understood our disappointment and would try to get us a complimentary break.
As yet, we have had no correspondence from them.
I would stay at this hotel again, it was in a beautiful setting.

Great Hotel, food was a let down

Mark D, Cheshire, stayed: June 2022

Great Hotel, lovely room, helpful friendly staff and a beautiful location.
Unfortunately all this was let down by expensive drinks and overpriced food, the portions were tiny and the house wine was 25/bottle.
After our 3 course meal we were left feeling hungry and couldn t wait for our breakfast.
I would love to say breakfast was worth the wait but when we went to the restaurant at 9am (as arranged) there wasn t much left and what there was had dried out completely.
It s a real shame that such a lovely hotel was let down by the food, it s a pity there is no option to upload photos to my review as I took a photo of my wife s portion of gateau and it was literally smaller than her fork - honestly it was ridiculous, so much so it would be hilarious if it hadn t been so expensive.

Could do better

Anon, stayed: September 2018

The hotel stay was very good, it is a pity that they cannot sort out the bill. We are still waiting for a correct bill to pay, quoted price for an extra night was not reflected on the revised bill and they seem unable or unwilling to correct it

Lovely views

Anon, stayed: May 2019

First the positives: Room was clean and bed comfy with beautiful views. Breakfast was good - nice buffet.

Negatives: Room was not very well sound-proofed and we were disturbed by the constant slamming of the heavy doors of other rooms and the cupboards (which don't have soft close). Evening meal was 'so so' - nothing really wrong but curiously tasteless. It arrived very quickly and extremely hot so I guess was microwaved. The drinks service lagged well behind the extremely speedy food service so our wine which was ordered when the starters plates were taken away didn't arrive until the main course had been eaten. The hotel is dog friendly - my fault for not reading that bit in the hotel description- but a bit off putting to think dogs might have been in the bedroom and sat on blankets etc (they weren't allowed in the restaurant though thank goodness). Pool very small.

Tewkesbury Park says...

Thank you for your review and I wanted to assure you that we consider and act upon all reviews. Naturally, we'd love it when all reviews are great but actually, it makes us better when we learn about things we might not have noticed. So, to put your mind at rest, we'll be working on any banging doors along the corridors and to the bedrooms so that this won't be a problem in the future. We've identified a cam-action door closer, which will provide a much softer-close to doors and resolve this issue.

I'm so sorry to hear that you'd rate the food as "so so". We need to be better than this but one thing's for sure - there will be no microwaving main courses at this property. We make everything fresh from great ingredients and work with local and regional suppliers. The mise en place takes place throughout each day so that meals can be ordered and served within an acceptable time during our guests' meal experience. However, we must improve drinks service if we didn't bring this together with the food served.

Finally, rest assured that, although we're dog friendly, these are carefully restricted. Dogs are only allowed in our piano lounge and guests have to dine in this lounge, if they wish to be with their dog. There are specified bedrooms for dogs and dog owners, not used for other guests without dogs. These rooms are specifically designed and deep cleaned daily but you can be assured you weren't in one of these and no dog would have occupied your room prior to you staying.

We hope this puts your mind at rest and look forward to welcoming you again. Thank you for the feedback, which will help us to improve.

Best wishes

Patrick Jones
General Manager
