What a pity

JW, Gwent, stayed: September 2020

The hotel has fenced off the 'real' disabled parking bays and painted a white wheelchair on two narrow parking bays. I was told I could not park close to the entrance because my car would block a fire exit. I hold a blue badge for parking. There were no signs indicating that the area was a fire exit and I found it very difficult to believe.
It is my opinion that the hotel is breaking the law (Equality Act 2010) by their actions.
Before I stayed I phoned to inform the hotel that i had mobility issues, they said that's alright we've got you in rooms close to reception. They didn't mention the three flights of stairs both up and down to get to reception. Truly I found their attitude to be deeply offensive towards disabled people. If it had not been for Jordan and his polite professional demeanour, I would have left that day and gone straight to the County Court to issue a claim against the hotel.

Tewkesbury Park says...

Tewkesbury Park is an old building built on the crest of a hill. This is one of its unique selling points but at the same time presents operational challenges as there are multiple and frequent changes in floor height.  We have a duty and obligation to address these challenges and Mrs Watkins can be assured that we have done a lot of work in this area.  Mrs Watkins's room was Room 101, which is along from the secondary entrance and close to the restaurant. I understand that Mrs Watkins was able to walk unaided and therefore the room would have been entirely suitable.  Her kind comments about Jordan and the customer service he provided are the example of the most important aspect, namely direct help and assistance.  Mrs Watkins left her vehicle immediately by the main entrance doors and adjacent to the bollarded area by our new conference centre. Vehicles cannot be left for long periods in this location since any fire evacuation would be hindered.  Immediately opposite the hotel entrance are two correctly marked disabled parking bays. I understand that these were occupied at the time which was somewhat different to Mrs Watkins' assertion that they were roped off.   She was asked to move her vehicle when one of the disabled bays had become free however when doing so the bay became occupied by another guest so it was agreed that she could park in the chevroned area, generally used for hotel deliveries. I believe that she considered this to be the "fenced off" area but in fact this is fencing which marks the external boundary of a garden.

We are sorry that Mrs Watkins suffered such outrage that, had it not been for our hospitality, she would have felt the need to take legal action against us.  We make no discrimination between any guests and treat everyone equally.

Waste of time and money

MB, Middlesex, stayed: January 2019

Incredibly underwhelming hotel. Would never recommend. I m just glad we used a voucher we received and not our own money.

Tewkesbury Park says...

Oh dear. I'm so very sorry that Tewkesbury Park wasn't for you and, although there's no detail that I can particularly address, I'm very disappointed that you felt our property was underwhelming. It'd be useful to know what was missing or what went wrong to leave you with such a poor impression. Our guests usually comment on their experience of our facilities, the consequence of the £10m investment, which has recently occurred and most of all, the friendly, professional and helpful hospitality, which is provided by the team. We hope that we can continue to hit the mark with so many of our guests, which is helping to make our property successful. With best wishes and my apologies, Patrick Jones, General Manager

Very Disappointing - never again

CR, Berkshire, stayed: August 2022

Week booked a 4 night Spa break at Tewkesbury Park but on arrival we soon realised that this was a mistake. Our room was on the third floor of a separate accommodation wing that had no lifts, the room was small and incredibly hot as there was no air conditioning or fans. We returned to reception and was offered a better room in the main building that at least had AC but again no lifts. After a very mediocre lunch we went to book our Spa treatments only to find that there was only one therapist and two Spa rooms. There was no treatments available for the whole of our staff. When we complained we were informed the Tewksbury Park is a golf venue and definitely not a health Spa. On our second night the noise in the bar was terrible with a group of guests shouting and drinking heavily. This went on until the early hours. We were so disappointed we left a day early. The venue is in a stunning location but what is on offer is well below acceptable standards. All In all it turned out to Beth s most expensive swim I have ever had.

Disappointing

LJ, stayed: February 2025

We expected more as the cost was quite high. Getting into our room was difficult as the doorway was obstructed with a wardrobe being stationed too closely inhibiting opening the door. The spa was in a different building to the hotel not what you expect in a luxury setting. Not value for money.

Short Break

KN, Warwickshire, stayed: February 2024

We booked the suite, not a comfortable stay due to the air conditioning not working. Heaters scattered throughout the suite, needed to warm the room. The Bathroom however was cold.
Evening meal on the first night was excellent due to the service from the head waiter.
Second evening not so good, due to change of staff.
Breakfast experience not good. The English breakfast was help yourself, from warm up trays. Resulting in eggs being stale and hard. Bacon soggy and fatty. Mushrooms rubbery. Continental breakfast however was good.
Service for breakfast could be improved by having a warm welcome and attentive staff.

Great Hotel, food was a let down

Mark D, Cheshire, stayed: June 2022

Great Hotel, lovely room, helpful friendly staff and a beautiful location.
Unfortunately all this was let down by expensive drinks and overpriced food, the portions were tiny and the house wine was 25/bottle.
After our 3 course meal we were left feeling hungry and couldn t wait for our breakfast.
I would love to say breakfast was worth the wait but when we went to the restaurant at 9am (as arranged) there wasn t much left and what there was had dried out completely.
It s a real shame that such a lovely hotel was let down by the food, it s a pity there is no option to upload photos to my review as I took a photo of my wife s portion of gateau and it was literally smaller than her fork - honestly it was ridiculous, so much so it would be hilarious if it hadn t been so expensive.

Overnight break

Anon, stayed: March 2023

We loved everything about the hotel but we're really disappointed that the pool and hot tub weren't open. These were the main reason we chose the hotel.

We say...

Thank you for your review.

Sorry to hear the pool and hot tub were not open, we have since contacted the hotel about this and they advised that all leisure facilities are now back up and running, they unfortunately had some electrical work carried out that unfortunately cut out one of their boilers so the water was just slightly below temperature.

Kind regards,

Offpeakluxury
