Birthday weekend away

Claire A, Oxfordshire, stayed: October 2020

Had the most abating night away at Ellenborough Park. What a beautiful despite the torrential rain all weekend.
Our room was so comfortable and lovely. We were taken to our room by a really friendly chatty gentleman who told us all about the history of the hotel.
Our only gripe was the restaurant food. The fine dining restaurant is currently closed due to the cove but we were happy with the More limited menu we were given.
We chose Chateaubriand as a treat and although the meat was good quality and cooked well it was stone the triple cooked chips and clearly been fried in a very old chip fat so they smelt and tasted like that old greasy spoon cafe chip which was very odd putting.
Definitely expected better!!!
Didn t want to spoil the evening meal or weekend with sending it back ...but in hindsight should have bought it to their attention at the time.

A lovely stay with very friendly staff

Caroline, Essex, stayed: November 2020

booked Ellenborough Park for my husband's special birthday and we weren't disappointed on arrival. The approach is very impressive and the building beautiful with such character. The welcome was very friendly and all the staff members were only too happy to chat and impart very useful information or just pass the time. I have to say it was a little disappointing to find the restaurant closed for dinner as I had a nice frock to wear but we ended up sitting in the atrium which was a little chilly and didn't feel particularly special but the chateaubriand was excellent. To be honest I am not really sure why the restaurant was closed since the horse box was much smaller and so people appeared quite closely seated, whereas they could have been much more spaced out in the restaurant. The only other thing to mention was the real fire in the lounge, whilst it was lovely to see an open fire in such wonderful surroundings, I think the chimney may have needed sweeping as the smoke was quite choking at times. All this having said, we had a thoroughly lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to stay again (perhaps in the summer months when we could enjoy the outdoor spaces!)

Lovely hotel, could be much better

AR, Essex, stayed: July 2021

Hotel: lovely vintage building with great grounds
Staff: clearly understaffed - restaurant wait times were far too long for a 3* let alone a 5* hotel. The way we got around it was to book early at each meal sitting so our order could be placed in good time before the staff and kitchen were overrun
Restaurant: food was on the whole good but only one vegetarian option on the menu. The menu was static throughout so a bit 'samey' by the end of our stay.
Spa: nice facilities that could be booked for private sessions (Sauna + steam room + hot tub). Treatments were expensive. No indoor linkage between main building and spa so guests required to go outside in robe. our discount from staying at the hotel was not applied.

Relaxing stay

Anon, stayed: October 2021

Lovely stay at the Ellenborough Park Hotel. Great location outside of Cheltenham and within easy reach of Cotswold villages and local attractions. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were ever so helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay and found sufficient variety on the menu. As we are not meat eaters we enjoyed having more than one fish dish to choose!
The Spa was great, small, with good selection of treatments.
