Delightful country hotel

Martin Camroux, stayed: June 2021

Really charming old building, the heart of which is a Queen Anne house. Our room had a four poster bed and a lounge and atmospheric creaky floorboards. The restaurant is traditional and in keeping with the style of the house. A really charming break. At the moment the staff seem inexperienced - it seems most of the original staff did not come back after the lockdown. So our bill was wrong and we were were rung up a month before to tell us we were late for dinner. The mixed vegetables for the set menu were rather uninspiring and one potation between two people seemed rather ungenerous. But we would certainly be happy to go back.

May Have Been Nice, 30+ Years Ago

Rob, Worcestershire, stayed: October 2020

We made the most of our overnight stay as it was a surprise birthday treat for my wife.
The hotel is in a pleasant spot and looks fine from the outside.
Inside is another story. After waiting at the un-attended arrival desk for 5 minutes, I was expecting to be greeted by Basil Fawlty. the young man who greeted us was polite (but could have been Basil's grandson!).
We were shown to our 'Superior Room'; which it wasn't ... It had furniture that looked like it had been salvaged from the Titanic; creaking, or with doors hanging off their hinges. All appliances were dated. The fixed radiators did not get warm during our time in the room. There were 2 supplementary, electric heaters; which probably explained why.
It was a good job that there were 2 people staying in the room as, if a person was in the Bathroom and attempted to use the Brass Door Handle to get out, it would come away in their hand with the sound of the Knob at the other side of the door, thumping to the floor !!
I won't go on ...
The only positive, was that the evening meal was edible.
Like many hotels in which we have stayed, around the country, this place needs many thousands of pounds spent on it, to bring it, at least into the 20th Century.
Sadly, in the current state, we find ourselves; this is very unlikely to happen.

Complete relaxation

Christopher, Berkshire, stayed: August 2020

From the warm and friendly welcome, to the delights of the restaurant and the peaceful tranquillity of a spacious room, the Corse Lawn House provided an ideal environment to relax and (as much as is possible) forget about the Covid environment we all find ourselves in. Yes there is social distancing, hand sanitising, staff in masks etc etc, but it does seem overly intrusive or strange. There is sufficent space to allow the guests to feel at home and comfortable without always worrying about being too close to others. A special mention to the Kitchen who - at a time when so many Hotels and Restaurants have minimised menus choices - still provide extensive choices and beautifully cooked and presented dishes. We had a really pleasant and enjoyable stay, so thank you to all involved with the Hotel.

3 night break

CD, Norfolk, stayed: August 2020

We had a lovely large room and food was good and staff very helpful. Regarding COVID practice this hotel does need to do a lot more to make it safe, didn t always feel comfortable regarding this. We did complain about a few things we noticed regarding COVID practice, the main problem was the amount of people doing the eat out Wednesday and that we needed to walk through them to get to the restaurant. This has now finished. We felt some tables were too close and the restaurant was way to warm and humid to be safe. When we told them about this they moved us to a table we felt more comfortable with for the rest of our stay and made sure the small windows above the door were open.

Corse Lawn House Hotel says...

I am so sorry you had a problem with the amount of people sitting outside and in the drawing rooms on the eat out scheme, We found it difficult ourselves, and they were difficult to distance too. Had we known, we would not have joined the scheme, but we felt that Richie Sunak had done so much for hospitality that we should say thank you by being a part
of the scheme. We do have all our tables distanced at two meters, and most of our guests are comfortable with this. We are taking a great many precautions, and I am really sorry to hear that you were not quite happy, and I agree about the
warmth in the restaurant, but guests keep closing windows and doors, which makes it tricky! However, we are getting better with practise!!

A very enjoyable three day stay.

RJ, Oxfordshire, stayed: February 2020

The hotel itself is very attractive and informal in style. We were welcomed and made to feel at home and taken to our room. The hotel is not a modern building and this gives it its ambience. The room was very comfortable and the only criticism of the whole stay was that the lighting was sufficiently dim that its was difficult for more than one person to read on the comfortable sofa. The lighting beside the bed was satisfactory. There was leaf tea and ground coffee available at all times. The bathroom was large and the water piping hot.
The food, particularly the breakfasts, was of a high standard. The restaurant provided excellent dinners of a quality that would be hard to better. The wine list was hopelessly out of date, particularly for red wines - it needs urgent attention. After dinner, the lounge was very welcoming with a generous log fire, so good for a chilly February evening.

We could recommend the hotel and restaurant wholeheartedly.
