We spent a very comfortable two nights at the hotel, where the staff were attentive to our needs. Particularly good were the tea and coffee making facilities in the large bedroom where we had proper tea and coffee rather than teabags and coffee sachets. The dinners were delicious with an excellent choice of starters and main courses and the breakfast was good with freshly squeezed orange juice.
Not a complaint but they perhaps need to review their system of relaying wine purchases as we were undercharged which I pointed out to the manager!
overnight treat
The hotel is located in a very pretty area with many interesting and attractive places nearby to visit. The setting with duckpond in front is very charming.
We really enjoyed the opportunity to have a swim before dinner. The pool was really warm and we were the only ones in it.
The service in the restaurant was excellent - attentive and friendly. the menu is very extensive and has several vegetarian options which we needed. However the cooked breakfast menu did not cater well for vegans or vegetarians. My partner who does not eat eggs was given half a grilled tomato and a spoonful of mushrooms as he was unable to eat the bacon,, sausages and egg from the full Engish. He asked for some fried potatoes, but they weren't available. It would be advisable to offer more variety and larger helping for vegetarians.
Our room was delightful and very spacious. Big thick fluffy towels and bathrobes were provided (useful for the swimming pool).
The sitting room was cosy and comfortable and board games and books were available.
Altogether a very relaxing and pleasant stay.
A weekend away with friends
Lovely surroundings and setting, room was comfortable, however a little 'tired' decor wise.
Could have done better
Food quality lived-up to two AA Rosette classification. Forthampton room was spacious with a pleasant outlook but bathroom could have been a lot better in terms of fittings and lighting (useless for ladies doing their make-up). Staff were helpful and friendly when spoken to but none of them took the initiative to talk to you or ask if you were happy (e.g. the waiters never returned to ask if the restaurant food was satisfactory). Breakfast not as good as dinner (especially the sausages - dry with a coarse texture - not to my taste). Position of the hotel is good - quiet with attractive surroundings and a good base for exploring the locality.
A Little Dissapointed
I booked this hotel as a suprise birthday present for my wife, having read some previous reviews. The welcome was good, however I feel the hotel is looking a litttle tired, lots of cobwebs in the bedroom.
The restaurant was the biggest disappointment, for a Two AA Rossette, the menu was not very inspiring, the food was average, and staff although attentive, were a bit aloof during service. Breakfast was good and service was better. Would not rush back.
We were in need of a break after a hectic year
So we booked Corse Lawn as being quite near home but far away from our telephone. It met all expectations: the staff were friendly but not intrusive and we were simply able to relax with our books and our drinks. The meals were truly excellent.
Corse Lawn Break
We thought this was one of the best hotels we had ever stayed in.
The service, food and staff were excellent.
The location is very good for the local towns (Tewkesbury, Gloucester and Cheltenham) and also for visiting the Forest of Dean and Cotswolds. The immediate location is quite rural so if you want razzmatazz go elswhere.
We had a small break for my wife's birthday and couldn't have chosen a better place
Ok for one night en route
Room we had was a bit tired. Dog friendly hotel which suited us. Food not especially memorable. Drinks expensive. Wouldn't return in a hurry.
