On day of arrival there was a wedding going on in the grounds. Upon check in we mentioned our concerns about possible noise from an evening disco. We were assured that it would not impact on our stay in anyway.
We checked into our room to see that the wedding guests were directly under our window.
After a pleasant evening we retired for the night to hear the disco loud enough to actually hear not just the thud but the words that were being sung. It carried on until 12.20 am. For the guests to then continue singing outside our bedroom window.
We were unfortunate to have been put in a family room with interconnecting room So ,so when the guest returned to there room next to us, we were woken again with another party at 3.20 am.
Finally managed some sleep and went down stairs the next morning for breakfast. There were no staff to greet us and were told by other guests to help ourselves to the very basic breakfast buffet. After sitting down to eat a waitress appeared and asked if we would like tea or coffee in which we ordered both,I had noticed that the milk jug on our table was dirty from previous guest so I asked for it to be changed. The waitress reappeared 5 minutes later with a very dirty tea and coffee pot ,and when I pointed it out she said it was stained rubbed some off with her finger,I asked for it to be changed. Waited a few more minutes and the same pot of coffee tea and the milk jug came back which had just been wiped as the marmite was still on the milk jug.
I expected much higher standards in this hotel from customer service and food hygiene.
Certainly would not recommend this hotel or stay there again.

Where do I start , as soon as we walked in the young girl on reception said iv only been here a week , but we hope you will spend lots of money? The bedroom could do with a update , and wasn't very clean dust on fabric covering above bed and on rails ECT. I didn't receive my Sunday paper yet you still billed me for it . The hotel is definitely not disabled friendly, different drops in stair height ECT. You cannot even get around the garden due to the deep gravel , I use a self propelled wheelchair outside . The route to the church is a hazardous journey for any one use a wheelchair or mobility aid .the spa changing rooms are dirty and messy towels left on the floor . I paid for me and my wife 145 for two treatments nd we didn't even recive slippers or a dressing gown . Your staff in the spa done nothing but moan saying they where being realacated new jobs around the hotel as the builders are due in to do a refit . The deal we should of had with our package was we could of had a bottle of house wine with every meal up to the value of 15 or that value added to another bottle that definitely didn't happen you can check my final bill . Very disappointed as I wanted to treat my wife as she's been through a rough time of late . Would I stay here again only if changes were made .

We say...

Dear PW,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, although we are sorry that your stay fell short of expectations.

Had we been made aware during the booking process that you required a hotel with accessible rooms and public areas, we would have been happy to recommend a property which met your requirements more exactly - as you have mentioned, Billesley Manor has no lift and most areas are accessed via steps. This is mentioned in the Disabled Access information on our website.

Should you wish to book through us in the future, do please let us know your room requirements prior to booking and we shall liaise with your chosen property to ensure that suitable accommodation is available for you.

With best wishes,

Offpeakluxury

Extremely disappointing. The worst luxury hotel we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in lots!

IS, Leics, stayed: July 2019

Room-poor-no robes, fridge,shaving/make up mirror. Insufficient lights. Room renovation close by.
Breakfast-basic, very limited choice. The worst we have been presented with in years.
Public toilet- need painting and cleaning!
Restaurant- table reservations not registered. Every bill was over charged. Drinks taken by someone else included. Service charge included!
When you recieve an invoice where over half the items included are wrong you know you are unlikely to ever return to this hotel.

Not what was expected from a 4* hotel

Anon, stayed: January 2019

Wifi terrible, Wouldn't class rooms as luxury. Carpet thread bear, sofa beds had stained cushions.

Supposed to be an 'Upgrade' to junior suite as we were a family. Not sure what other rooms are like if we were "Upgraded", only supplied 2 tea cups / tea bags for a room supposed to be catering for 4.

Website states dressing gowns and slippers in room - (these did not exist).

Lighting in room was sparce, no ceiling lights only a coupe of table lights.

Took over 10 minutes to get any hot water into the room.

Food in restaurant was nice, but wouldn't say it was spectacular or worth what was charged, apart from the children's main meal.

Overall, extremely disappointing.

Fine old building but very ordinary hotel

BW, East Sussex, stayed: November 2017

With an exterior facade that suggests a spacious comfortable experience, the interior did not deliver. Building additions mean that cramped corridors lead from the entrance area to the few available areas retained for guests. There is no relaxing lounge with deep comfortable chairs that the building suggests on first sight. Rather a small bar with adjacent room with no focal point. Dining room had character but the menu was very limited and never changes apparently. After two nights eating in one has run out of alternative options from the poor menu. The hotel appeared to be run by money men as it was downright cold during our stay with the heating turned right down. Two log fires were lit at 5pm and were out by 9pm!. Very disappointing, not a place that will call you back.

Dissatisfaction

LS, Nottinghamshire, stayed: August 2018

Two nights stay. Girl on reception not very receptive when we arrived, did not engage in conversation just gave us our room key and told us what time breakfast was. Room is the best thing about the hotel. The spa facilities very run down and ladies changing rooms were unclean and the showers very run down and dirty. Bar staff, waitresses and waiters very friendly. On our first night there was no record of us down for an evening meal and we had to be squeezed in. The food on both evenings was very good. On the second night it took over twenty minutes to accept that our deal included a bottle of wine ! I had to show my booking details. Sadly after our meal on Wednesday we were sat relaxing in reception and overheard the male receptionist use the f word twice to a colleague referring to a hotel guest, this is totally unacceptable and very unprofessional. Also found it very odd he had a Chinese takeaway delivered too!
Would I recommend staying here? Probably not

Fixed menu disappointing

David, Shropshire, stayed: August 2018

Dinners were well cooked but fixed menu very disappointing. Breakfasts were poor, basic and cooked breakfast was buffet style with little variation. Toaster again self service and took a long time to produce toast. Bedroom furniture was basic for a so called "Superior" room. No view to speak of and no air conditioning. Shower over bath which makes showering difficult for people our age. No lift and very difficult stairs to negotiate. Very small car park in front of hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. However the greatest disappointment was the fixed menu.
