Very poor experience

Anon, stayed: July 2024

Experience on all levels really poor. If you have a dietary requirement do not come here.
Service is poor, food is expensive and badly cooked. Staff are aggressive and refuse to engage with feedback.
Rooms are satisfactory if dated and are unbearable in heat.
Absolutely overpriced and a very poor experience.
A waste of money.

Disappointing customer service

Mandy R, stayed: September 2024

I booked a break which included a 70 voucher for dinner in the restaurant on the first evening. I booked our table for the first evening but my flight from Spain into the UK was delayed plus the rain was torrential that night with lots of flooding and terrible traffic so there was no way we were going to make our dinner reservation. I called the hotel to cancel since last sitting for dinner is 21.30. We eventually arrived at the hotel around 22.30, tired and bedraggled but very pleased to have got there. The receptionist who booked us in asked if we wanted to book a table in the restaurant for the following evening - which we did. He didn't mention that the offer I had booked was only for the dinner voucher on the first night and I couldn't transfer it over to the subsequent night even due to the exceptional circumstances of my delayed flight and the appalling weather. When I subsequently checked out I was, therefore, charged full price for the dinner on the second evening. I queried it with the hotel and they said it was not down to them since it is part of the offer from Country Hotel Breaks, low and behold Country Hotel Breaks said they would be happy to honour the voucher for the second night if the hotel agreed to it but they didn't - so conveniently one was able to blame the other and I, the customer, was left out of pocket. Extremely disappointed that both the break provider and the hotel used the excuse of the other one in order to not apply the discount to our dinner on the second night. I would not stay in the hotel or book via Country Hotel Breaks again for that reason since I did not think it was unreasonable to have requested they apply the voucher to our dinner on the second evening instead of the first. Any other opinions I may have formed about the hotel, our stay or Country Hotel Breaks have been marred by this experience.

We say...

Dear Mandy,

We are sorry that it was not possible to change the dinner allocation to the second evening instead.

We did approach the hotel to see if the dinner could be included on the second evening or if we could offer a partial refund. Unfortunately, we were informed by the hotel this would not be possible.

Refunds or amendments to the package inclusions do have to be agreed by the hotel.

Once again I'm sorry that we could not assist further.

Kind regards

Country Hotel Breaks

Sleepless night and lack of response!

Anon, stayed: February 2023

Thank you for sending this review form as you did not respond to my message online on the morning of 14th February.
We left your hotel after a one night stay staying in room 56. We had the worst nights sleep due to your fire doors being left open all night along with doors slamming shut all night long. We reported this the following morning as we checked out. The young receptionist did not seem to care at all. My husband and I eventually got to sleep at 3am!
We were very disappointed with firstly the lack of response to our complaint and also that in your restaurant you had to pay more for vegetables or potatoes!

Disappointed

Alan, stayed: September 2021

Fabulous part of the country: lovely grounds: attractive historic property: excellent room in main building: the icing on the cake should have been a dining experience to complement the manor: sadly it was not the case and fell well short of expectations as marketed.
Having place our order, forty-five minutes later I had to bring to the waiter's attention others table diners who arrived later than ourselves had been served starters. Five minutes later food arrived with problems: placing the soup on the table we were advised to stir it if it tasted cold. My wife's starter not what was ordered famished and in order to dine together Frances made a start. Ten minutes later the waiter recognised the error, returned with an apology and the correct starter. The table directly next to us had a similar experienced with the suite course. How many others?
Breakfast was not much better: international buffet was well short of choice and quality, and/or a full English initially served with hard sausage, hard yoke on fried egg and bacon with heavy attachment of fatty edging. Request for fresh items was accommodated, however did not address similar poor quality of food which remained in the trays presumably to be given to guests following. Evidently excuses will be made, nevertheless, the dining experience is of paramount importance when paying good, hard earned money to stay at a hotel that promotes both high quality accommodation and dining. Finally, with the exception of a very poor dining experience Billesley Manor Hotel is a very nice place to visit and we would stay again if the reputation of the dining experience was exceptional.

Great location, shame about the food

Chris Burcombe-Filer Hampshire, stayed: January 2022

Restaurant very poor, food average at best. Advertised Hand cut chips reality thick cut frozen !
Salmon prawn and crayfish salad arrived with no salmon, on notifying waiter, no apology, just returned with a lump of smoked salmon on a side plate.
Buffet breakfast, cooked food cold both mornings, and we were virtually the first down,
