Inconsistent service

Anon, stayed: January 2022

Building work was going on whilst we were there. We ere informed of this 2 hrs before check in. Although this didn t affect the hotel at all it did affect the spa and we had to cancel some treatments.
It took quite a few calls to get these correctly refunded. That being said the staff were lovely and so helpful, as were the check in staff.
Our first night dinner was fabulous with lovely staff and really tasty food.
We hadn t left and we were already planning the next visit.

The second night however was the complete opposite with poor service cold food and rude staff. Such a shame that our stay was ruined and the inconsistency of service means we won t go back

Overall we felt disappointed. Our room was really nice and bed was comfortable but on hanging our clothes in the wardrobe the rail collapsed took 2 days to repair. Felt for a superior room having a shower in the bath when the bathroom was large and had been refurbished not necessary and very difficult for elderly people to access to take a shower.
The restaurant menu for dinner was very limited and as we where staying 3 nights would have liked more choice and our cooked order for breakfast every day was never correct.
The Spa was the saving Grace lovely pool, staff very friendly and accommodating

Lovely hotel, staff let it down.

JR, Wiltshire, stayed: June 2022

You cannot deny that the hotel is beautiful. The grounds are fantastic, rooms had everything we required and our dog felt like a king.

Sadly the service from the staff let the experience down for us, over two hours to serve our evening meal, only our children ordered starters and these didn t arrive at the same time, one child had finished before the other had arrived. Drinks took over half an hour to arrive. Had our children been younger it would have been a painful experience.

The Website states that the pool is open longer for families on holidays and bank holidays, when we asked at reception we were told to check with the spa, checked with the spa who advised she hadn t been told. We asked if she could enquire and the response well nothing has been said in our WhatsApp group. I was then told the manager would be in the next day so to check then, my response then was it s a bit late then as we would only have between 8am and 9am to swim so if I left it till the morning the children would miss out, so we set an alarm and got up early so they didn t miss out.

The children were excited to use the gym, had planed their workout the evening before, went down in the morning before swimming to be told they were not old enough, no signage on or in the gym to advise age, just that it was the responsibility of the user to ensure equipment was used correctly.
So another disappointment from the spa.

The morning was a beautiful day, we asked to have our breakfast outside as we had the dog with us, again was first advised they were short staffed, however we could come inside to the bar, I pointed out the bar was also not set up, I then pointed out breakfast is self service so if I took our own cutlery and plates on a tray would that help? Again I waited for 15 mins for an answer, however we did eat outside, we had a lovely breakfast - it took them an hour to bring me a cup of coffee however we set a trend, within a few moments a lovely lady arrived at work and was happy to set up tables outside and soon the sun terrace was packed with happy morning guests enjoying breakfast in the sun.
Final note the bill from the evening meal had been billed incorrect so after checking out, paying it was only when reviewing the bill I realised we had been charged for things we had paid upon booking. Although the front of house reimbursed with no questions it was another customer service situation that you shouldn t expect when staying at such a highly rated hotel.

Would I stay again .. yes because the hotel, grounds are beautiful. Our children had a great time so did the dog. I managed to relax between sorting out the minor hiccups.

Disappointing

JJ, West Yorkshire, stayed: June 2023

Billesley Manor is a wonderful place to stay not far from Shakespeare country. Set In wonderful grounds. The only failing is the food in the main restaurant. We were kept waiting between courses and the portions were small and not good value at all. My vegetable risotto had edamame beans and peas. Not very imaginative! The ice cream desert portion ( expected 3 scoops) was 3 small teaspoons.
Yes I could have asked for more but wasn t worth it. The sirloin steak had to be sent back and replaced.

Breakfast was very good. Usual buffet style with plenty of choice. Unfortunately for the hotel because of the disappointing diner we ate elsewhere.

50th birthday treat

WU, South Yorkshire, stayed: February 2023

Our room was ok it had a terrible smell outside which we were told it was the drains. The bar menu prices were wrong and charged us more but didnt realise until we checked out. I arranged for a surprise bottle of prosecco in the room which was 39 pounds and it wasn't there so I had to go and ask for it so spoiled the surprise. The room was average and was supposed to be a deluxe room it wasn't. They added service charge to everything without asking. In all it was a nice hotel but wouldn't go again.

Disappointing stay for a special occasion.

Anthony E, Cornwall, stayed: March 2023

This was meant to be a special short break to celebrate my wife s birthday. The venue was carefully chosen as my wife is an avid Shakespeare fan. Your staff were friendly and helpful but did not seem particularly knowledgeable about the area when we requested help with locations, parking etc.

It was a shame that our room was in one of your separate buildings necessitating a wet and windy walk wrapped up in winter clothes for meals and reception. Whilst on the subject of your restaurant it would have been nice if someone had offered to take our coats and scarves rather than hanging them on the back of our chairs.
We enjoy eating out and are prepared to pay well for quality but the meal on our first evening was minuscule. The food was well cooked and tasty but in fact all three courses could have fitted on to a small plate! This resulted in us cancelling our reservation for the second evening and eating out in Stratford.

We were disappointed in the Barn. No one told us we were in The Barn because we would not have agreed to that as the walk over in the wind and rain was disappointing when you are dressed for dinner. Our room was not really ready for us. Dirty coffee cups, no coffee and tea supplies. Only got bottles of water last two days. Around the skirtings were quite grubby.and I had a pillow on my bed that was blood stained with a clean pillow case over it. I must admit I am not one for complaining but this was absolutely disgusting. I let this on show for the cleaner for see, but it stayed there for the whole time I was there, i.e. 5nights. The beds were quite hard which made sleeping uncomfortableThere was no lifts in the annex and stairs which were not mentioned, This caused difficulty with cases when we arrived. One the whole the Barn was not up to standard. Can t complain about the waitresses who were very helpful.

We say...

Thank you for your feedback, we do make it clear on our website the location of the rooms in the Cedar Barns annex and the fact that the hotel does not have a lift. We are sorry to hear of your other issues and we have passed on your feedback.
