not what we were expecting!

Anon, stayed: November 2024

Very disappointing - booked a package deal but no bottle of Prosecco waiting in our room as promised .had to ask for it .
Executive room was very small and we changed to another non executive room that was bigger .
Couldn t charge our drinks to the room as apparently we had no credit on file - no one asked for this at check in !!!
Reception gut hat to bring us personally the Prosecco as no I else was available to do this . Check out was also annoying as we asked for a receipt which seemed to be a technical problem as the guy wasn t authorized to do this ???

The bat man was not very attentive - although he served us drinks twice in the restaurant - we were basically. Ignored at the bar until we asked him if we had to come to the bar to order .

Annoying that the pool area is not directly linked to the main house .

Disappointing

AR, Surrey, stayed: October 2024

We were very much looking forward to a romantic weekend away. However we were really disappointed. The room was really tired, no towels in the bathroom, stains on the carpet and the wall. Additionally, which I know can t always be helped, but our room looked out onto the trade entrance so was really noisy in the mornings. I tried to shake the initial disappointed but then was get down again in the morning by the breakfast. The lid to the almond milk was completely black with mould, when I got back to our table, my partner had already started eating, and the cereal had a big lump of coagulated mould in it. I told the person running the breakfast and they just said oh , there was no apology for this. The spa was really nice, we had our showers there to avoid using the tired bathroom in the room. Lastly, our booking said we would have a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, we did not get this, we only had a complimentary drink. I chose not to mention this during our stay and was going to give feedback when checking out however the person checking out did not ask us how was your stay. Overall, I would not recommend coming here or will be going back anytime soon.

Still awaiting a response

I have just arrived back from a one night stay at the Welcombe Hotel and Spa, in Stratford Upon Avon.

I m afraid to say that I have returned from my trip feeling thoroughly short- changed and disappointed. Whilst I know that the reasons I m about to outline, are not at all the fault Country Hotel Breaks, I think that you should be made aware of the situation at this hotel. I would just like to say that this is the first complaint email that I have ever sent, to a travel company or otherwise, but I m feeling really very unhappy about the last two days.

The hotel claims to be a spa hotel with a state of the art spa . The jacquzzi was closed. The foot spa was closed, the tiny outdoor pool was freezing and the loungers were falling to pieces and covered in rust (that subsequently covered and ruined my swimsuit). I had booked my mum this trip for her 60th birthday and as you can see, the spa was really not an option. Having spent half an hour, we decided to leave.

The website shows photographs and menus of cocktails. We were told upon arrival that they were between menus and therefore had no ingredients for any cocktails other than an Aperol Spritz .

Everybody at the hotel seemed fairly confused about us asking the whereabouts of the bottle of sparkling wine when we arrived, but we did eventually get one (even if the bartender was not to be seen again for another half an hour and I had to go and retrieve the bottle from the ice bucket behind the bar myself, in order to have a second glass)

In addition to this, there was a mix up with our room, meaning we had to move. The new room had no view, a broken wardrobe that we couldn t open and the room service lady had obviously decided that two squares of toilet paper were sufficient and neatly folded them into a triangle

Then, there was a mix up with our meal. We decided to eat the margarita pizza instead of the cream cheese and mushroom one that we ordered, because quite frankly we d given up hope and the waiter had disappeared for an age.

I did, in the very British way, apologetically complain to be offered another room (another floor above, not much better and we declined having to move all of our bags for a third time) a bottle of wine with dinner (we were under our 36 per head towards the meal and so really didn't see this as an apology) and told that the marketing team would be in to speak with me in the morning.

I m afraid that, in the morning there was no body around to be seen and I got the impression that we were wanted to leave quickly with the express check out papers pushed under our door.

The building is beautiful, even with the tired carpets and substandard rooms. The grounds are stunning. The staff were polite, but I feel that this deal was very over-sold and really was very poorly delivered. At 170 for the two of us, we would have been better off staying in the centre of Stratford and having a decent pub tea, with change to spare. Instead, we had no spa, a very substandard room for the night, poor service, a bottle of wine and margarita pizza. I think you should know the situation before you continue to sell this deal, I am absolutely sure that I will not be the only guest who has left feeling this way.

It was supposed to be a lovely, relaxing break for my mum and I, but unfortunately we both feel pretty let down.

Worst room I have ever experienced!

Richard, stayed: September 2024

Worst room ever experienced and I travelled the world for 30 years on Company business. No opening windows. No ventilation of any sort. A/C broken but no outside vent so even if working would only circulate old stale breath of all previous occupants. Room dreadfully stuffy. Even the bathroom had no ventilation, not even an extractor fan - unbelievable! Unhealthy carbon dioxide! We had booked for three nights but had to leave after one night. My wife was ill for two days the next day. Official complaint lodged with your company and compensation for ruined holiday requested.
Richard Wellesley
PS: The restaurant was excellent but that was no compensation for the dreadful roon

We say...

Thank you for your review.

As you are aware this is being looked into by the hotel management and we thank you for your valued feedback.

Kind regards,

Any chance of some sleep??!!!

Adrian, Herts, stayed: April 2025

My wife and I decided to get away for my birthday between th9th and the 12th of April. The room we stayed in for the first 2 nights was OK. But they placed us in the middle of a group with a company who decided they were going to drink and act like children. Running up and down the corridor waking everyone up until 3 in the morning. We complained to the desk on the 11th which happened to be my birthday and they moved us to the Elizabeth room which would have been the nicest room I'd stayed overnight in a hotel, had we managed to stay the night. At 11 o clock and 12:30 we were woken up by the sound of running water, almost like a very noisy shower. We decided that we would leave if it happened again and low and behold we were woken up by the same sound at 2. I'm not one to complain at hotels but I would not stay here again. My idea of a hotel is certainly not to pack up and leave for a 2 hour drive home in the middle of the night. I would like some peace for my wife and I when we try to sleep. If youre the same as me do not sleep here

Disgusting and dirty

Dennis, Lancashire, stayed: March 2025

We booked into the Welcome hotel and were given a room on the ground floor. The bedroom itself was ok but the bathroom had no blind up to the window and was very cold. So we were given a second room.
The second room was an improvement but covered in cobwebs and strange stains on the furnishings and walls. As we pulled back the duvet the sheet came with it and exposed what I can only describe as the filthiest mattress I've ever seen. There was no mattress cover on the bed and it exposed a
mattress that was totally unacceptable. How you can put people into a room that I would consider a health hazard I'm just incredulous.
There were cobwebs everywhere in the hotel and some surfaces hadn't seen a clean in ages.
The restaurant was ok and food was pretty decent but there was only 4 of us in there so no atmosphere whatsoever. The other 2 evenings we went into Stratford to eat ... An opportunity missed by the hotel.
All this didn't make for the best break and we will think twice about using Best Western again.
