Welcome Hotel Spa

Anon, stayed: December 2024

The directions to the hotel were clear and there was ample parking except one night, understandably, when a conference was being held. We enjoyed walking the hill behind the hotel. The surrounding area is lovely. Being winter the front garden was not at its best and the proximity of the golf course limited walking in that direction. The hotel room was small and the heating was off so sitting there required warm clothes. The window in the bathroom and bedroom allowed a flow of cold air to enter because of the old iron frames. Surely a handyman could inexpensively fit draught excluders. On the other hand the bathroom and bedroom had no extractor fans for ventilation. Not enough drawers in which to put smaller items of clothing so more than a few days stay becomes challenging. No luggage rack, suitcases on the floor. The bed was firm so lighter bodies like ours suffered somewhat and the sheet was applied directly to the mattress so that the stitching on the mattress was palpable. Probably ok for heavier persons. TV needs upgrading to a smart TV. Clunky remote. The restaurant menu was boring and the food average. Sitting near any of the lounge or dining room areas is a cold experience because of the draughty windows. (Again, simple draught excluders?) My wife had to have two linen serviettes on her knees to try and stay warm. The breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. We did not make use of the spa. Our stay was generally quiet and peaceful. Conveniently located near Stratford with easy access.

Disappointed with Restaurant Menu. Only provided Table d'hote NO A La Carte Menu, and of the Table menu, the only meat dish of pork NOT available. Table d'hote overpriced - 35 for Fish and starter, otherwise offered Bar Menu. Breakfast was no more than average.
The ambience of the hotel was fair, but needed an injection of TLC. Room was very spacious, but looked tired. No water provided on first night which for an alleged 4-star hotel is not the service expected.
Location was superb.

Good hotel . Good service and good food. Let down by early morning deliveries and commotion below our bedroom window which had us awake by 6am

Major upgrade required

David G, West Yorkshire, stayed: October 2024

Not great the place needs an upgrade, tread-bare carpets in places, badly soiled furniture in our room, reported radiator not working on first night never got fixed, They had to move us from our first room because we had view over dust bins & the curtains & the shower curtain were dirty. The locker doors were falling off in the spa. Our evening meal included in our deal was very poor with little choice & the meat was mostly fat. I am sorry to give it a poor review because this place could be very special but that will take a few million pounds. We love to go on short breaks like this but this hotel his well behind the computation.

Slow service and extremely noisy

Suzanne D, Northamptonshire, stayed: September 2024

We found the service in the restaurant poor especially in regard to the length of time it took for both our afternoon tea and evening meal to arrive. Disappointed to not have fresh ground coffee available at breakfast.

The bedroom (333) was not available until 4 which is an hour later than we expected. The room was noisy due to the noise of the pumps for the sowers when being operated in adjoining and above/below rooms.

Poor noise insulation in walls. We could almost join in the telephone conversations happening with our neighbours.

However, worst of all was being consistently being woken up by disrespectful and inconsiderate guests who I believe were on a work event and partying in a nearby room and making frequent and loud noise in the corridor chasing each other and using foul language into the early hours of the morning.

Worst nights sleep in years.

Wouldn t recommend

Anon, stayed: October 2024

The location, especially for dogs was perfect next to a huge common and the cooked breakfast was good. However, customer service was appalling, whether that be taking 5-6 times for someone to answer the phone pre-check in, attitude behind the reception desk, or in the spa - the general attitude of bar (bar a few people) was shocking. The bar food was terrible. It was overpriced for the experience and there are definitely better options available, where staff actually want you to enjoy yourself!

Could be wonderful ....

NG, West Midlands, stayed: August 2024

On arrival this place is impressive, beautiful grounds. The hotel is a huge old building which looks beautiful but once inside the cleanliness and almost forgotten about theme starts to show. Areas of this hotel are lovely but very mirrors actually had writing and drawings on them in the dust from who knows when! Then there are areas that are just derelict with old tables shoved in the space. The fixtures and fittings are all tired. There's not enough staff to show you where to go those that are there are young and running around like headless chickens. There seemed to be a lack of mature staff giving direction. The room was up in the eaves, squeaking floorboards wherever you walked, the bathroom was huge but old, the hairdryer was one of.those old ones fixed to the wall with a tube that omitted heat!!! The room had far too much furniture in, the window sill had its own insect graveyard but everywhere else was clean. View was the bins. The Spa was dirty, untidy with many things out of action. Cups and towels lay strewn everywhere, the reception staff were bored and unhelpful when muttering information about where to change it was find your own way. Dinner was great but took an age, however they were very busy and short on staff. Bedroom at night was the hottest I've been in.but the 2 fans in the room on arrival should have hinted at what was to come. Breakfast was good but again the dust was shown in its full glory. The grounds still had litter and glassware from a wedding strewn about. It's such a shame as this could be a fabulous place with a professional cleaning company in residence, the spa needs everything repairing and new sunbeds as they nearly all have holes in them. Mature staff are needed as the youngsters are doing their best but need direction. The spa staff need some intense training on customer service and basic cleanliness of a spa!
